A system includes an air chamber and an oil capture cavity. The air chamber includes an inlet to receive pressurized air from a gas turbine engine. The oil capture cavity is positioned between the air chamber and an oil sump supplying lubricating oil to the gas turbine engine. The oil capture cavity includes an auxiliary vent formed in a base of the oil capture cavity. A seal may separate the oil capture cavity from fluid communication with the oil sump. A nozzle provides fluid communication between the oil capture cavity and the air chamber. The nozzle is configured and positioned to direct a stream of the pressurized air into the oil capture cavity against an opposite wall of the oil capture cavity to create a quiescent zone at the base of the oil capture cavity. The quiescent zone includes the auxiliary vent.

A bearing lubrication system includes a bearing assembly comprising a duplex bearing including an outer ring, an inner ring positioned radially inward from the outer ring, and two sets of circumferentially distributed rolling elements between the inner and outer rings. The bearing assembly further includes a housing radially surrounding the duplex bearing and including a lubricant flow passage in fluid communication with a source of lubricant. A flow orifice is located downstream of the lubricant flow passage for jetting the lubricant into the duplex bearing. The flow orifice has an axial location between the two sets of rolling elements.

A strut may include an outer tube including an outer tube first end, an outer tube second end, and a longitudinal axis extending from the outer tube first end to the outer tube second end. The outer tube may define an interior. The strut also may include an additively manufactured inner tube at least partially within the interior of the outer tube of the strut. The additively manufactured inner tube defines an additively manufactured inner tube first end and an additively manufactured inner tube second end. The additively manufactured inner tube first end is integrally joined to the outer tube proximate to the outer tube first end.

Systems and methods are disclosed for sealing a high pressure fluid cavity from a low pressure fluid cavity in a rotating machine such as a gas turbine engine. The cavities are at least partially disposed between a rotatable shaft and a sump housing radially displaced from the rotatable shaft. A seal assembly comprises an air riding carbon seal ring and a circumferential ceramic runner. The carbon seal ring is sealingly engaged with the sump housing and has a radially inward facing seal surface. The circumferential ceramic runner is carried by the shaft and has a radially outward facing seal surface extending axially along the shaft. The radially inward facing seal surface of the air riding carbon seal ring sealingly engages the radially outward facing seal surface of the ceramic runner during rotation of the rotatable shaft at a predetermined range of rotational speeds.

An inner ring for a bearing comprises a ring body including outer and inner surfaces each extending in a circumferential direction about a longitudinal axis. The outer surface is disposed radially outside the inner surface and includes (a) a raceway for supporting circumferentially arranged rolling elements, (b) a forward separator land, and (c) an aft separator land, where the raceway is axially situated between the forward and aft separator lands. The inner surface includes an annular groove for containing a lubricant under centrifugal forces. Flow passages for distributing the lubricant extend through the ring body from the inner surface to the outer surface, including a set of first flow passages extending from the annular groove to the raceway, a set of second flow passages extending from the annular groove to the forward separator land, and a set of third flow passages extending from the annular groove to the aft separator land.

An exemplary gas turbine engine includes a radially stacked intershaft bearing assembly. The assembly includes an outer stubshaft having outer and inner diameter surface portions disposed concentrically with respect to one another. The outer diameter surface portion is rotatably connected to a body of the engine, and the inner diameter surface portion is rotatably connected to an inner stubshaft of the engine, so as to provide a stacked configuration of the inner stubshaft, the outer stubshaft, and the body along a radial direction orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the engine.

The over-running clutch pulley of the preferred embodiments of the invention includes a sheave member defining a sheave input surface adapted to engage an input device, a hub member defining a hub output surface adapted to engage an output device, and a clutch cartridge. The clutch cartridge includes a sheave engagement sleeve coupled to a sheave cartridge surface of the sheave member, a hub attachment sleeve coupled to a hub cartridge surface of the hub member, and a coil spring having the first end attached to the hub attachment sleeve. The coil spring is adapted to engage the sheave engagement sleeve upon the acceleration of the sheave member in a first rotational direction relative to the hub member, and to disengage the sheave engagement sleeve upon the deceleration of the sheave member in the first rotational direction relative to the hub member.

The over-running clutch pulley of a preferred embodiment of the invention includes a sheave member, a hub member located substantially concentrically within the sheave member, a spring member, and a stop surface, which cooperate to rotationally engage an input device and an output device. The sheave member preferably includes a sheave input section adapted to the engage the input device, and a sheave clutch section defining a sheave clutch surface. Similarly, the hub member preferably includes a hub output section adapted to engage the output device, and a hub clutch section defining a hub clutch surface. The stop surface functions to engage the spring member and to transfer some torque from the sheave member to the hub member during the acceleration of the sheave member in the first rotational direction relative the hub member.
