Embodiments herein relate to fenestrations, such as windows and doors, exhibiting coastal impact performance. In a first aspect, an impact-resistant fenestration unit can be included having a frame and a bottom sash. The bottom sash can have a bottom rail, a check rail, and opposed stiles and can be configured to pivot inward away from the frame assembly such that the check rail moves away from the frame assembly. A first side bracket can define a cavity to receive a portion of a bolt from a sash tilt bolt assembly. The first side bracket can be mounted on one of the two opposed side jambs at a height corresponding to a position of the check rail when the bottom sash can be in a closed position. The bolt can include a metal inner support member and a polymeric overmold portion. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Sash tilt bolt and checkrail bracket systems for coastal impact resistant fenestrations

Embodiments herein relate to a system and method for retaining an insulated glass subassembly including a laminated layer of glass within a frame of a fenestration unit providing protection against wind borne debris. A fenestration unit can include a frame member defining a channel with a lower end and an attachment surface thereon along with a glass subassembly including a proximal end received and seated within the channel and an outside facing surface of the exterior pane proximate the lower end of the channel. A retention member can engage the interior laminate pane, and a glazing material can be on the attachment surface at the lower end of the channel. The outside facing surface of the glass subassembly can be attached to the channel of the frame member with the glazing material. In various embodiments, methods of making a retention member are included herein. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Embodiments herein relate to fenestrations exhibiting coastal impact performance. In an embodiment, a fenestration unit includes a frame assembly forming a first lower corner and a second lower corner. A first sill corner bracket can fit on a top of a sill and extend from the first lower corner partway along the top of the sill and partway along one side jamb of the frame assembly. A second sill corner bracket can be configured to fit on the top of the sill and extend from the second lower corner partway along the top of the sill and partway along the other side jamb. A bottom sash can include a bottom rail defining a channel to receive at least a portion of the first corner bracket and the second corner bracket therein when the bottom sash is in the closed position. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Sill corner brackets for coastal impact resistant fenestrations

Embodiments herein relate to hollow profiles and methods of preparing the same for joining operations. A method herein can include placing a dam within a channel defined by the hollow profile, fitting a die block over an end of the channel, and injecting a flowable composition through an injection port into the channel. Another method can include defining a volume within a first member using at least one flow control device, filling the defined volume with a flowable polymeric composition, allowing the flowable polymeric composition to solidify to form a solid portion in the first member, and mechanically modifying the solid portion to define a joining surface suitable for joining to the second member. An anti-sputtering sill system for a window or door frame and a method of controlling sputtering associated with a sill of the window or door frame. The anti-sputtering sill systems may reduce or prevent sputtering by preferentially allowing air bubbles formed in the water in a containment tank in the sill to pass into a vent cavity in the sill that is vented to the interior of a building.
