A level-wind mechanism in a fishing reel of the multiplier type is, as a one-piece unit, removable from and insertable in the fishing reel frame which has two side members. This unit consists of a sleeve having a longitudinal slot, an endless screw rotatably mounted in the sleeve, a level-wind mounted on the sleeve and having a groove-follower pin which via the slot in the sleeve meshes with the endless screw in order, during rotation thereof, to move the level-wind back and forth along the sleeve, and a member for preventing the level-wind from being rotated on the sleeve. The frame has a recess in each side member. The unit is inserted in these recesses such that its sleeve extends parallel to the line-spool shaft while resting on the bottom of the recesses. The unit is retained in the recesses by means of projections on two side covers mounted on a respective side member. A radial projection is provided for preventing the sleeve from being rotated in the recesses.

Level-wind mechanism in a fishing reel

A fishing reel comprising a line spool which for winding up a fishing line is rotatable by means of a manually operable crank and disconnectable from a gear transmission by means of a disconnectable clutch and a clutch operating member. The reel also comprises a line spreading mechanism with an involute screw which is rotatable by means of the crank via the gear transmission for reciprocating a screw follower connected to reciprocate a line guide and which, when winding up the line, serves as a line spreading member for spreading the fishing line on the line spool. The line spreading member comprises a hub slidably mounted on a guiding sleeve. An involute screw is rotatably mounted in the sleeve and defines, together therewith, an annular space in which an annular support for the screw follower and for a driver dog is mounted. The annular support which encompasses the involute screw and is guided in sliding contact with the inner periphery of the sleeve, forms together with the screw follower and the driver dog a unit which is reciprocable within and encapsulated by the sleeve with the sole exception that a dog pin which is supported by the driver dog and disengageable by angular movement extends with an end portion through a longitudinal guiding slot in the wall of the sleeve for guiding the annular screw follower support.

A fishing reel comprising a frame, a line spool rotatably and releasably mounted in the frame and an induction-type magnetic brake for braking the fishing reel during casting is disclosed, in which a number of permanent magnets are mounted on a support which is easily releasably fixed to one end of the frame and encloses an opening therein, and in which the pole support is easily removable together with the magnet poles as a unit for uncovering said opening, and said opening is of a sufficient dimension to permit withdrawal of the line spool through the uncovered opening. In the preferred embodiment, the magnet support also forms a support for one end of a spindle which supports the line spool in the reel frame.

An induction-type magnetic brake for braking the line of a fishing reel during casting is disclosed, in which a number of permanent magnets are supported by an annular support which is carried in a coaxial position relative to the axis of rotation of the line spool near the outer side of one end wall of the line spool, and in which each permanent magnet is supported by the annular support such that one pole face of the magnet faces the spool end wall, the distance between the pole face and the end wall being adjustable by axial adjustment of the permanent magnet by means of a knob readily accessible on the outer side of the fishing reel.

The disclosure relates to an apparatus for the disengagement of the line spool in relation to a transmission driven by a crank by means of a manually actuable operating member, and for automatic reengagement of the line spool and the transmission by means of the crank on rotation thereof for retrieval of the line on the line spool. The characterizing feature of the invention is that a locking mechanism for retaining the clutch between the line spool and the transmission driven by the crank includes a locking arm which is movably carried on a pivotally mounted lever in an arm system, and is disposed, on pivoting of the lever by means of the operating member for switching the arm system and the clutch from the engagement position to the disengagement position against the action of spring biasing, to be moved on the lever to a position for engagement with the locking member, and has means for realizing, by engagement with the locking member and the lever, a mutual locking of the mutually movable lever and locking arms until the locking member is once again rotated by means of the crank. As a result of this arrangement, use may be made, for the locking member, of a ratchet included in a known non-reverse mechanism for the crank.

The invention relates to a fishing reel having a rotatable line spool, a hand crank and a transmission connected with the line spool through a disengageable clutch, and comprising a clutch engaging and disengaging device, a hand operated actuating member for disengaging, means for disengageably locking said device in the disengaged position, and spring biased returning means for reengaging said clutch in said device; the improvement being characterized by a blocking device comprising a first member which is movable with a movable part of said engaging and disengaging device, and a manually operable second member which is pivotable manually between two positions and is arranged such that, in one position, it permits unhindered disengaging operation of the clutch engaging and disengaging device and also of the locking operation of the locking device, and, in the other position, restricts the freedom of motion for said disengaging operation in a position in which said locking operation of the locking device is prevented, whereby returning of said blocking device permits spring operated returning of the engaging and disengaging device into the engaged position without any unlocking operation of said locking device.

The invention relates to fishing reels of the type having a line spool which is rotatable at high velocity by drag force from the line spool during casting, and in which the line spool supports a centrifugally actuable brake device which comprises a plurality of pins projecting radially from a part, fixed to the line spool, and brake members slidably mounted on the pins for braking cooperation at radial outer positions thereof with a circumferential stationary surface.
