Aluminum welding alloys with improved welding performance are disclosed. The aluminum welding alloys include high loading levels of magnesium and one or more surface active elements and arc stabilizer elements. Methods of making and using the aluminum welding alloys are further disclosed.

Aluminum welding alloys with improved performance

Aluminum-magnesium alloys useful as welding wire and mechanical support are disclosed. The aluminum-magnesium alloys exhibit improved cold wire drawing performance. Grain refiners and methods of forming the aluminum-magnesium alloys are further disclosed.

Welding wires formed from improved aluminum-magnesium alloys

A conductive element of a cable or a wire is formed of an improved aluminum-zirconium alloy. The aluminum-zirconium alloy further includes an inoculant. The aluminum-zirconium alloy exhibits excellent ultimate tensile strength values and resistance to heat. Bonding wires formed from an improved aluminum-zirconium alloy exhibiting certain ultimate tensile strength values, fatigue resistance and/or creep rates are also described. Methods of forming cables and wires are also further disclosed.

Cables and wires having conductive elements formed from improved aluminum-zirconium alloys

A process of producing an overhead transmission conductor. The process comprises: (a) continuously hot rolling a bar of AA 1350 aluminum or a similar aluminum alloy to form a rod; (b) hot-coiling the rod at a temperature preferably in a range of about 300 to 400&#xb0; C. to provide an aluminum electrical conductor rod having an electrical conductivity in a range of 61.8 to 64.0% IACS and a tensile strength in a range of 8,500 to 14,000 psi; (c) without subjecting the rod to an annealing treatment, drawing the rod into wire: and (d) stranding the wire into cable to form the overhead transmission conductor. The invention also relates to an ACSS conductor produced by the process.
