A hydraulic damper () includes a tube (), a piston assembly () disposed slidably inside the tube (), and an additional valve assembly (). A compression chamber () is defined between the piston assembly () and the additional valve assembly (). An additional compensation chamber () is defined between the additional valve assembly () and one side of a slideable partition (). A gas chamber () is defined at the other side of the slidable partition (). The damper includes an additional chamber assembly () to retain all the advantages of a twin-tube damper while providing the single construction offered by a mono-tube damper. One end of the additional chamber assembly () is attached to the slidable piston chamber () or to said piston rod () at the compression side thereof and the other end of said additional chamber assembly () is terminated with the additional valve assembly ().

Hydraulic suspension damper

In shock absorber system, solenoidvaries the damping force by changing the position of spring seat, and the effective preload force, at the same time. In the normal, de-energized condition (with no current), damping forces are generated by the piston valveincluding piston. The actuated valve springis relaxed and set in such a way that it applies only a minimum preload force to the rebound-side disc stack. The motion of the plunger, pinand movable spring seatassembly changes the spring force by varying the distance between the movable spring seatand the stationary spring seat. In the energized state, applying current to coilgenerates a pulling force on the plungerin the direction of the core elementto attract plungertowards the coreand across the initial gapuntil it is in a direct contact with the core's surface. Maintaining plungerat this position requires applying a continuous constant holding current to coilso that the position of the plunger is preserved (and the high preload force at the same time). When current is no longer applied to the coil, then the pulling force is no longer generated, and the plunger assembly returns back to the original (soft) position due to the reverse action of the valve spring

Shock absorber system and method

A hydraulic damper () includes a slidable piston assembly () attached to a piston rod () to form at least one valve assembly of the damper. The damper further includes at least one chamber in which a slidable partition assembly () separates this chamber into an additional compression chamber () hydraulically connected with a main compression chamber () and an additional rebound chamber () hydraulically connected with a main rebound chamber (). The slidable partition assembly () comprises a piston () making a sliding fit with an inner surface of the chamber and at least one spring () supporting the piston (). The slidable partition assembly () additionally comprises at least one internal piston () disposed slidably within the external piston () and supported by an internal spring () disposed between the internal piston () and the external piston ().

Amplitude sensitive hydraulic damper

A hydraulic damper () comprises a tube () filled with working liquid, inside of which a slidable piston assembly () is attached to a piston rod () and provided with at least one valve assembly () to control the flow of working liquid passing through the piston assembly () during rebound and compression stroke of the damper. The valve assembly () contains a floating disc valve () and additionally comprises a unidirectional check valve disc () disposed serially with the floating disc valve () across the passage of the flow of working liquid during compression or rebound stroke of the damper (). Preferably the piston assembly () forms a symmetrical cross-flow arrangement and preferably the at least one valve assembly includes compression () and rebound () valve assemblies of the piston assembly () which each have the same constructions.

Hydraulic suspension damper with a floating disc valve

A shock absorber assembly including a fluid for absorbing forces between the body and the wheel of a motor vehicle. The shock absorber includes a valve having a resilient disc engaging a piston for impeding the passage of fluid through the aperture of the piston. A bi-stable solenoid is disposed in the housing and is interconnected with the resilient disc of the valve. The bi-stable solenoid's armature is moveable between a first stable position for applying a first biasing force against the resilient disc of the valve and a second stable position for applying a second biasing force being less than the first biasing force against the resilient disc of the valve. The adjustment of the biasing force on the valve also adjusts the damping force of the shock absorber.

Bi-stable shock absorber assembly

A high-performance piston core including a first piston cylinder and a second piston cylinder, with a piston center longitudinally disposed between and magnetically coupling the first piston cylinder and the second piston cylinder. The piston center is made of high-performance magnetic material, such as Cobalt steel (CoFe), Silicon steel (SiFe), Vanadium/Cobalt steel (Permendur), alloys thereof, or the like. The high-performance magnetic materials exhibit high magnetic permeability and reduce the magnetic reluctance of flux bottlenecks. In addition, high-performance magnetic materials typically saturate at a higher flux density than the conventional magnetic materials. The first piston cylinder and the second piston cylinder can be made of conventional magnetic material, such as low-carbon steel. The first piston cylinder can include a ring disposed about an end, where the end is longitudinally attached and magnetically coupled to the piston center.

High-performance piston core for a magnetorheological damper

The piston for a magneto-rheological fluid system is manufactured from a piston skirt of a material having a high magnetic permeability and a piston plate which closes one end of the piston skirt having a low magnetic permeability and therefore must be made out of a material such as stainless steel. The piston is manufactured by placing the plate on one electrode and clamping another set of electrodes against the outer circumferential surface of the piston ring or skirt. The plate and ring are brought into contact with one another while applying a current through the piston ring and the piston plate, thereby heating interfering portions of the ring and plate and permitting the plate to be forced inside of the ring while at the same time allowing the softened or plastic portions of the ring and plate to intermingle with one another and thus form a solid state bond.
