A lamp assembly having a CFL light source includes an outer envelope received around the light source. The outer envelope includes a first enlarged portion dimensioned for receipt about the light source and a second narrowed portion adapted for connection with a lamp base. A platform receives a first end of the CFL light source and supports the CFL within the envelope, the platform including a tapered perimeter portion dimensioned for abutting engagement with an interior surface of the envelope.

Energy saving lamp

An electric lamp comprises an inner assembly including a light source and a control gear circuit. An outer envelope encloses the light source and at least a part of the control gear and has a predetermined wall thickness and an end portion. The outer envelope is comprised of two parts separated along a circumferential line. The two parts of the envelope are connectable and sealable to form a uniform outer envelope with a seal region. The seal region has a wall thickness and is merged in a surface portion of the two parts of the envelope so that the surface unevenness of the seal region is not greater than 0.5 millimeters, and the maximum difference of the wall thickness of the seal region with respect to the wall thickness of the outer envelope is not greater than 0.3 millimeters. A discharge tube arrangement for a compact fluorescent lamp is provided. The tube forms a continuous arc path and has electrodes disposed at each end of the arc path. The discharge tube arrangement comprises a first cold chamber in order to control and maintain a required mercury vapor pressure. The first cold chamber is located in a longitudinal end portion of the tube arrangement. The discharge tube arrangement is further provided with at least one second cold chamber, which is positioned between the longitudinal end portions of the discharge tube arrangement. The at least one second cold chamber is positioned on the wall of the tube, and has a cold chamber wall protruding substantially away from the central axis of the discharge tube arrangement. The discharge tube arrangement may have a coiled configuration with helical tube portions or a multifinger configuration with straight tube members.

A light-source assembly includes a low-pressure fluorescent discharge tube arrangement having a cold spot temperature and radiating white light and at least one light-emitting diode radiating red light. An operating circuit supplies current to the discharge tube arrangement and the light-emitting diode. An outer envelope surrounds at least the discharge tube arrangement and provides a substantially homogenous light resulting from a mixture of the light radiated by the discharge tube arrangement and the light radiated by the light-emitting diode. A base mechanically and electrically connects at least the discharge tube arrangement in the outer envelope to a lamp-holder.
