a) A Gabor domain optical coherence microscopy (GD-OCM) system providing high resolution of structural and motion imaging of objects such as tissues is combined with the use of reverberant shear wave fields (RevSW) or longitudinal shear waves (LSW) and two novel mechanical excitation sources: a coaxial coverslip excitation (CCE) and a multiple pronged excitation (MPE) sources providing structured and controlled mechanical excitation in tissues and leading to accurate derivation of elastographic properties. Alternatively, general optical computed tomography (OCT) is combined with RevSW or LWC in the object to derive elastographic properties. The embodiments include (a) GD-OCM with RevSW; (b) GD-OCM with LSW; (c) General OCT with RevSW; and General OCT with LSW.

Gabor domain optical coherence elastography

A near eye display assembly includes (a) frame; (b) a combiner operably connected to the frame as a first reflective surface positionable in front of an eye of a user of the display assembly; (c) a secondary mirror operably connected to the frame as a second reflective surface positionable proximate a side of the nose adjacent to the eye of a user of the display assembly; (d) an image source operably connected to the frame and optically coupled to the secondary mirror along an optical path; and (e) an optical fold element between the image source and the secondary mirror in the optical path, and positionable proximate the temple adjacent to the eye of a user of the display assembly; wherein an intermediate image is formed in the optical path between the image source and the secondary mirror, wherein the combiner and the secondary mirror are in an off-axis folded geometry which directs images from the optical fold element to an eyebox of the near eye display assembly, and at least one of the combiner and the secondary mirror include a freeform surface, wherein the freeform component corrects optical aberrations induced by a tilting and decentering of the first reflective surface and the second reflective surface, and wherein at least the combiner includes a nanostructured meta-surface which further provides wavefront control of an image from the image source to be directed to the eyebox and enables the combiner to be positioned at a tilt angle so that unobscured images are conveyable between the optical fold element and the secondary mirror while providing an FOV of at least 30 degrees and an eyebox width of at least 5 mm.

Augmented reality display

A mechanically tunable reflective metamirror optical device for a targeted design optical wavelength includes a dynamically deformable substrate and a sub-wavelength periodic arrangement of patterned isolated gap surface plasmon (GSP) resonators positioned in or on the dynamically deformable substrate. The patterned isolated GSP resonators are movable relative to each other and comprise a patterned optically thin metal layer for the design wavelength, a patterned optically thick metal layer for the design wavelength, and a patterned insulator layer between the patterned optically thin and optically thick metal layers.

Mechanically tunable reflective metamirror optical device

Systems and methods for assessing multi-layer structures in which a spectrum array is generated from low coherence interferometry and input into a statistical estimator, which determines the thickness and layer number based on the inputted spectrum and other information, including information about a source intensity noise, Poisson noise, and dark noise associated with the low coherence interferometry.

Expanded performance opportunities for imaging spectrometers are described using &#x3d5;-polynomial freeform surfaces in reflective and diffractive optics. The imaging spectrometers are generally of a type that include an entrance aperture for admitting radiation over a range of wavelengths, a detector array, a primary reflective optic with optical power, a secondary reflective diffractive optic, and a tertiary reflective optic with optical power for collectively imaging the entrance aperture onto the detector array through a range of dispersed positions. One or more of the primary reflective optic, the secondary reflective diffractive optic, and the tertiary reflective optic can include a &#x3d5;-polynomial optical surface with no axis of symmetry and represented by a function that depends on both a radial component and an azimuthal component.

Imaging spectrometer with freeform surfaces

A near eye display includes at least one of a combiner, a secondary mirror, and a waveguide having a freeform nanostructured surface. The freeform nanostructured surface encompasses a freeform surface, a nanostructured surface or a combination of both the freeform surface and the nanostructured surface. The freeform nanostructured surface can be incorporated into a combiner or a secondary mirror in the near eye display in a compact folded geometry, wherein an anamorphic or freeform optic can be optically intermediate an image source and the freeform nanostructured surface. The nanostructured surface can include a meta-grating operable across the visible spectrum. The meta-grating includes meta-atoms configured to provide a given efficiency at the desired wavelengths in reflection.

A see-through optical display apparatus includes an image generating component, a tilted primary mirror having a non-flat, freeform, front optical surface, and a tilted secondary mirror having a non-flat, freeform, front optical surface, wherein the apparatus has an external pupil. A method for designing/making a see-through optical display apparatus for displaying an image generated by or on an image generating component of the apparatus.

A full-field display for spectrally dispersive imaging optics, particularly as a design tool for evaluating optical designs including designs with freeform optical surfaces, includes a ray tracing module arranged for modeling local aberrations throughout the image field of the spectrometer and a display module that converts values of the modeled local aberrations throughout the image field into representative symbols. The spectrometer field has a first spatial dimension corresponding to a length dimension of an input and a second spectral dimension corresponding to the dispersion of the input. The representative symbols are plotted in an array having a first axis corresponding to the first spatial dimension of the image field and a second axis corresponding to the second spectral dimension of the image field.

Imaging spectrometer design tool for evaluating freeform optics

Systems and methods for determining thickness of lipid and aqueous layers of a tear film in which a spectrum array is generated from optical coherence tomography and input into a statistical estimator, which determines the thickness of the lipid and/or aqueous layers at a nanometer resolution based on the inputted spectrum and other information, such as information about a laser intensity noise, Poisson noise, and dark noise associated with the OCT.

Measurement of the lipid and aqueous layers of a tear film

A low-cost optics, broadband, astigmatism-corrected practical spectrometer. An off-the-shelf cylindrical lens is used to remove astigmatism over the full bandwidth, providing better than 0.1 nm spectral resolution and more than 50% throughput over a bandwidth of 400 nm centered at 800 nm. The spectrometer includes a first spherical mirror disposed along an optical path in an off-axis (tilted) orientation; a diffraction grating disposed along the optical axis in a location optically downstream from the first mirror; a second spherical mirror disposed along the optical path in an off-axis orientation in a location optically downstream from the diffraction grating; a cylindrical optic disposed in the optical path; and a detector disposed in the optical path in a location optically downstream from the second spherical mirror.

Broad band Czerny-Turner spectrometer, methods, and applications

An apparatus and associated method for testing a non-symmetric (e.g., phi-polynomial) surface. The apparatus uses several simple (singlet) optical elements (e.g., an Offner null configuration) and a tilted optic under test in combination with an active optical element (e.g., actuated, deformable membrane mirror, optical phase modulator, etc.) that together form a null or quasi-null that allows for conventional null-based interferometry. This solution solves the problem of exceeding the dynamic range of a conventional interferometer when trying to test non-symmetric optical surfaces.

A hybrid fiber system Mach Zehnder Interferometer- and free-space Michelson Interferometer-based Dual Detection Frequency Domain-Doppler Optical Coherency Tomography (DD-FD-DOCT) apparatus provides higher power efficiency and thus better sensitivity compared to the free-space DD-FD-OCT. Both DD-FD-OCT systems enable functional imaging with the contrasts of Doppler and that of polarization, in addition to full range images simultaneously.

In one embodiment, imaging a medium under evaluation includes generating acquired images of the medium, each acquired image comprising a cross-sectional image along a lateral and a depth direction of the medium that results from scanning the medium at a different depths, filtering each acquired image to remove out-of-focus portions of the images and generate filtered images, and merging the filtered images to form a high-resolution fused image.

Systems and methods for performing Gabor-domain optical coherence microscopy
