An apparatus comprising: a memory having at least two sections; a security element associated with at least one of said at least two sections; and a processor for controlling access to at least one of the at least two sections of the memory in dependence on a value of the security element. The apparatus may be an integrated circuit and the memory may be a read-only-memory storing generic code in one of the sections and code specific to a mobile communication device provider in the second section. The security element may be a permanently programmed memory element programmed by the IC manufacturer.

An apparatus for managing software versions may include a processor. The processor may be configured to determine whether a security identifier of a first security certificate matches a trusted security identifier. In this regard, the first security certificate may include software version criteria. The processor may also be configured to determine whether a software version of a software application satisfies software version criteria of the first security certificate. The processor may be configured to make this determination in response to determining that the security identifier of the first certificate matches the trusted security identifier. Further, the processor may also be configured to permit execution of the software application, in response to determining that the software version satisfies the software version criteria. A method for updating an integrated display frame buffer of a display module in a mobile electronic device, comprising a local frame buffer and a processor, comprising the steps of transferring display information to said local frame buffer, updating said display frame buffer by transferring said display information from said local frame buffer to said display frame buffer, and displaying said display information on said display module. Furthermore, the invention comprises the additional steps of detecting changes of said display information stored in said local frame buffer, and updating said display frame buffer when a change of said display information in said local frame buffer is detected.
