Embodiments herein relate to a wireless device for handling communication of the wireless device in a wireless communication network, wherein a radio network node in the wireless communication network provides radio coverage over a cell. The wireless device receives from the radio network node, when the wireless device is in a first state, a beam configuration indicating which beam or beams of the cell the wireless device is allowed to select during a state transition or initial access. Furthermore, the wireless device performs an initial access to the cell or a state transition taking the beam configuration into account.

In accordance with particular embodiments, there is disclosed herein a method performed by a wireless device for handover. The method comprises receiving a first handover message from a source network node associated with a source cell. The first handover message comprises an identification of a target cell and access information associated with the target cell. The target cell is different than the source cell and comprises one or more beams. The method also includes identifying at least one beam from among the one or more beams of the target cell. The at least one beam is identified based on the identification of the target cell and the access information from the first handover message. The method further includes accessing the target cell using the identified at least one beam.

Wireless handover

A method in a UE comprises: receiving a message from a network node comprising information about one or more sets of dedicated random access channel (RACH) resources, each set of dedicated RACH resources associated with a beam associated with a target cell; obtaining an estimate of beam quality for each beam associated with the sets of dedicated RACH resources; determining, based on the obtained estimate of beam quality, whether any beam associated with the one or more sets of dedicated RACH resources meets one or more criteria of a first set of criteria for performing random access; and performing random access based on whether any beam associated with the one or more sets of dedicated RACH resources meets the one or more criteria of the first set of criteria for performing random access.

Multi-beam random access procedure in handover execution

Methods of operating a user equipment UE are discussed. An access category may be determined from a plurality of access categories and at least one access identity may be determined from a plurality of access identities to be applied for an access attempt. An establishment cause may be determined for the access attempt based on the access category determined from the plurality of access categories and based on the at least one access identity from the plurality of access identities. A connection request message for the access attempt may be transmitted to a wireless communication network, with the connection request message including the establishment cause determined based on the access category and based on the at least one access identity. Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications network, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes determining a reporting quality threshold for a parameter related to channel state information (CSI); performing a measurement for each of a plurality of beams from a first predetermined set of beams for evaluation; evaluating the measurement for each of the plurality of beams against the reporting quality threshold; discontinuing the performing and evaluating of measurements in response to determining that the reporting quality threshold is met for one of the beams, such that one or more beams in the first predetermined set of beams are not measured and evaluated; and reporting, to the wireless communications network, CSI for the one of the beams.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

A method and apparatus according to the present invention addresses and/or prevents lost protocol synchronization in HARQ systems caused by ACK/NACK errors. One embodiment detects lost synchronization errors for NDI-based retransmission protocols and restores synchronization by sending an explicit RESET message. In response to the RESET message, the transmitter aborts the transmission of a current PDU and transmits a new PDU and corresponding NDI. Another embodiment prevents protocol synchronization errors by sending scheduling grants on a packet by packet basis. The receiver sends a subsequent explicit scheduling grant to the transmitter based on an error evaluation of a received PDU. The transmitter will not send the next PDU unless it receives the subsequent explicit scheduling grant.

Protocol synchronization for HARQ

A wireless communication device is configured for use in a wireless communication system. The device in this regard is configured to receive a command that commands the device to perform a link switch from a source link to a target link responsive to fulfillment of a condition. The command may indicate a target link configuration relative to a source link configuration. The device is also configured to store information from which the target link configuration indicated by the command is determinable irrespective of any change to the source link configuration occurring after receipt of the command. In some embodiments, the device is configured to, responsive to fulfillment of the condition, perform a link switch from the source link to the target link using the target link configuration as determined from the stored information.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. A method of operation of a wireless communication device to perform handover from a source cell to a target cell in a wireless communication system is provided. The wireless communication device performs () a beam tracking procedure for one or more neighbor cells to provide, for each neighbor cell, a list of tracked beams for the neighbor cell. The wireless communication device receives () a handover command from a source radio access node that instructs the wireless communication device to perform a handover from a source cell served by the source radio access node to a target cell served by a target radio access node. The target cell is one of the one or more neighbor cells for which the beam tracking procedure is performed. The wireless communication device then selects () a beam of the target cell from the list of tracked beams for the target cell based on random access resource configuration and/or a quality threshold. The wireless communication device then performs () random access on the selected beam.

Wireless communication device and method for network controlled beam based handover in NR

A mobile station is configured to support handover from a source base station to a target base station. The mobile station receives signaling from the target base station that indicates Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) protocol data units which have been successfully received at the target base station. In response, the mobile station generates further PDCP protocol data units for missing PDCP service data units from corresponding PDCP service data units buffered at the mobile station. The generating comprises using a different header compression state from that which was used for the missing PDCP service data units and ciphering specific to a connection with the target base station. The mobile station transmits the further PDCP protocol data units to the target base station.

Method and apparatus for seamless handover in a wireless communication network

According to certain embodiments, a method by a wireless device is provided for beam-based random access. The method includes receiving, from a network node, a handover command, the handover command comprising at least one suitability threshold. Measurements of each of a plurality of beams detected by the wireless device are performed. The measurements of the plurality of beams are compared to the at least one suitability threshold. A particular beam is selected based on the comparison, and a random access procedure is initiated.
