A method and an arrangement measures electrode paste in an electrode column of an electric arc furnace. The electrode column has a steel casing, is provided with a contact shoe ring, and is filled with electrode paste introduced from above and evolving from raw paste in the upper part of the steel casing to melted paste and to baked paste in the lower part of the electrode column. The level of the raw paste is determined with a laser beam transmitted by a first laser device. The level of the molten paste is determined with a laser beam transmitted by a second laser device. The data received from the laser devices is used for calculation of the distances of the levels of the raw paste and molten paste from the contact shoe ring.

Method and arrangement for measurement of electrode paste in an electrode column of an electric arc furnace

An electrode slipping device comprises an upper holder and a lower holder, both holders containing one or more clamping shoes and one or more clamping cylinders in co-operation with the clamping shoes. The clamping shoes are operable between a position where the electrode is clamped and a position where the electrode is unclamped. The clamping cylinder is connected to the electrode holder by first fastening means and to the clamping shoe by second fastening means such that the clamping cylinder can be released from engagement with the holder by unlocking both sets of fastening means.

Provided is an arrangement for cooling channels in an electrode column assembly of an electric arc furnace, wherein the lower part of the electrode column assembly is provided with a contact shoe ring formed of a plurality of contact shoe elements, a pressure ring formed of a plurality of pressure blocks, and a heat shield located above the pressure ring and formed of a plurality of heat shield segments. The contact shoe elements and/or the pressure blocks are provided with channels for a cooling liquid to flow therein. The channels made in the material of the contact shoe elements and/or the pressure blocks extend obliquely downwards from the upper ends of said contact shoe elements and/or the pressure blocks near to the lower ends of the same. At least two of said oblique channels join together at their lower ends to form a continuous channel.

Arrangement for cooling channels in an electrode system

The invention relates to a demister () configured for installation to a wet-type gas scrubber (). The wet-type gas scrubber () comprises a wet-scrubbing phase () and a liquid separation phase (). The liquid separation phase () includes a liquid collecting tank () and a cyclonic droplet separation tower () attached on the liquid collecting tank for receiving a gas stream therefrom. The demister () comprises a mist eliminator unit (A) for removal of liquid droplets in a gas stream. The invention also relates to a method of modifying an existing wet-type gas scrubber () by including the demister (). The invention further relates to a wet-type gas scrubber () comprising the demister (). The demister () is a separate integral unit adapted to be removably attachable between the liquid collecting tank () and the cyclonic droplet separation tower ().

A method and a system for monitoring clamping pressure exerted by a clamping cylinder to an electrode in an electrode slipping device which comprises an upper annular holder ring and a lower annular holder ring, each comprising at least one clamping assembly including a clamping shoe and clamping cylinder arranged in co-operation so that the clamping shoe is forced into pressure contact with the electrode and released from pressure contact with the electrode by the action of the clamping cylinder. The measuring system comprises a force sensor () mounted in connection with a pressing piece () that transmits the force created by the clamping cylinder to the clamping shoe. The force sensor can be a strain gage () mounted in a cavity () provided in the pressing piece () or a load cell mounted between the pressing piece () and the clamping cylinder.

Method and system for measuring clamping pressure in an electrode slipping device

In a sealing device () for sealing the through hole of an electrode, the pressurizing medium that generates the pressure of mechanical sealings against a rod electrode structure is an inert gas, such as nitrogen. The means for pressing the created sealing ring () against the rod electrode structure () include a gas distribution chamber () surrounding the sealing ring (); a first channel () that is arranged to provide a flow path for the inert gas in between the hose () and the gas distribution chamber (); an annular groove () in the sealing surface () of the sealing ring (); and a second channel (), which is placed in the sealing ring () and is arranged to provide a flow path for the gas from the gas distribution chamber to the groove () for extruding the gas in between the sealing surface () and the rod electrode structure ().

Sealing device

A distributor device including a distribution chute that extends inside the tank at an inclined angle for distributing material in the interior of the tank. A rotation frame is rotatable around a vertical central rotation axis (L) and includes a vertical inlet channel extending to the interior of the tank. A circular support frame is horizontally attached to the rotation frame, concentrically in relation to the vertical central rotation axis. A number of support rollers are connected to the tank and the axes of the support rollers are positioned radially with respect to the central rotation axis (L). At least one of the support rollers is as a support roller driving the rotation frame, which support roller the actuator is arranged to rotate. The distributor device includes a counterweight attached to the rotation frame, on the opposite side of the central rotation axis (L) in relation to the distribution chute.

The invention relates to equipment for heating gas in connection with continuous sintering in gas channels placed above a strand, the gas channels comprising at least a wall and at least two gas units, the gas coming from the gas units being in contact with the material on the strand, whereby at least one burner unit is arranged in at least one of the gas channels, being arranged as part of the gas channel, the burner unit comprising at least one separate combustion space arranged on the wall of the gas channel. The invention also relates to a method for heating the gas.

Equipment and method for heating gas in connection with sintering

The invention relates to a method according to which the wet scrubbing of a gas flow is performed in at least three, advantageously six successive steps or phases, and the droplet separation of the scrubbed gases is carried out in a uniform cyclone-like droplet separator composed of several nested cylinders. The invention also relates to a method for momentarily bypassing, during a capacity rise, a scrubbing phase that causes pressure loss. As a result, there is obtained a clean and dropless gas that falls below the allowed dust content limits and can thus be either conducted to combustion or discharged in the open air. The invention also relates to an apparatus, a multiphase scrubber, for realizing the method. The invention is particularly suited to be used for scrubbing hot furnace gases from closed reduction furnaces, where said furnace gases contain easily inflammable components.

A multiphase scrubber for the wet scrubbing of gases in several different phases comprises at least three separate basic scrubbing units so that the scrubbing of the gas is carried out in at least three, advantageously six, successive steps. The droplet separation of the scrubbed gases is carried out in a uniform cyclone-like droplet separator composed of several nested cylinders. A clean dropless gas contains a dust content below the acceptable limit. The scrubber is suited for scrubbing hot furnace gases from closed reduction furnaces.
