There is disclosed a technique for estimating a power change, particularly a power increase, in a communication system caused by a change in the load in the system. The technique particularly relates to a mobile communication system.

Power change estimation for communication system

In connection with the determination the transmit power of a beginning transmission there is also determined, in the method according to the invention, suitable output powers for other transmissions, so that the entity formed by all controlled transmissions is as close to the optimum as possible already at the beginning of a new frame. The method according to the invention takes into consideration the effect of a beginning transmission on other transmissions. The method according to the invention further takes into consideration changes in the conditions during the previous frame by including the control history of the fast power control as initial information of the calculation made during the re-determination of the output powers, for instance as a suitable statistical quantity of the transmission history of each transmission, for instance as an average over a certain period.

Power control method based at least partly on spread spectrum technique

The present invention relates to a radio communication system and a method in the system. According to the method radio resources of the system are managed based on information of the bitrate that has been allocated for a station of the radio communication system.

Radio resource management in a communication system

The present invention relates to a method in a communication system. The system comprises a controller arranged to control transmission power of stations, a first station and a second station, the controller being arranged to provide the first station with a target for use in control of the transmission power of the second station, monitoring means, and means for preventing use of a target for the transmission parameter that exceeds a limit value. The controller provides the first station with the target and the first station adjusts the transmission power of the second station on basis of the target. A predefined condition is monitored, and upon occurrence of the predefined condition, use of a target for the transmission parameter exceeding a limit value for the target for the transmission parameter is prevented.

Transmission power control in a radio communication system

The invention is related to control of transmissions in spread spectrum radio systems, more accurately to estimating transmission power increases caused by new transactions in the system. According to the invention, the estimate or interference power increase due to a new transaction is calculated at least partly on the basis of the current fractional load, the current received interference power level, and a load factor &#x3b5;L, which is calculated essentially on the basis of the chiprate, the bitrate of the new transaction, and the estimated required signal-to-interference ratio for the service type of the new transaction.

Power estimation method

The present invention proposes a method for traffic load control in a telecommunication network consisting of at least one radio terminal (MS) and at least one radio transceiver device (BS), each radio transceiver device (BS) defining a cell of said network being controlled by a network control device (RNC); comprising the steps of: setting a first reference load value for the load of a respective cell; monitoring the load of said respective cell, and in response to the load exceeding the first reference load value, manipulating the power control to decrease the transmission power levels in the cell. The present invention thus proposes a fast load control method in that during a situation in which a certain reference load value is exceeded, the load is controlled per base station sector by affecting, e.g. transmit power commands. In addition, such load reductions can be supplemented by re-negotiating bit rates, for example. With the proposed method a necessary load margin can be reduced which advantageously increases the system capacity.

Method for traffic load control in a telecommunication network

A data transmission system comprises a first device and a second device and a duplex data transmission connection therebetween. The first device sends to the second device user data on a data channel and control information on a control channel. The transmission is arranged in frames that comprise a user data field corresponding to a data channel and at least a first and a second control information field corresponding together to a control channel. In order to realise the control of the transmission power, there is determined a first transmission power level, a second transmission power level and a third transmission power level. From the second device to the first device there is transmitted a frame by applying said first transmission power level to the transmission of the user data field, said second transmission power level to the transmission of the first control information field and said third transmission power level to the transmission of the second control information field.

Method and system for controlling the transmission power of certain parts of a radio transmission

The discussion concerns the mutual arrangement of packets to be transmitted in a radio system, where the transmitted data is formed into packets ( ) for the transmission. The system comprises at least two transmitting devices which transmit substantially simultaneously and substantially on the same frequency, whereby the carrier power transmitted by the first transmitting device is interference power to those receiving devices, to which the second device transmits carrier power, and vice versa. In order to arrange the packets there is generated a utility function with a value, which depends on the carrier power and the interference power and which can be obtained by calculation for the transmitted packets in their mutual transmitting order at that moment. The packets to be transmitted are arranged in a mutual transmission order corresponding to the extreme value of the utility function.
