A method and system include a symbol processing block to generate log likelihood ratios (LLRs) associated with one or more data symbols. The method and system include a channel estimation (CE) module to receive the LLRs from the symbol processing block, and to process iterative CE (ItCE) for new radio (NR) based at least on reference signals and the LLRs. The CE module can process the ItCE with a granularity of one or more resource blocks (RBs) based at least on pilot resource elements (REs) and virtual pilot REs obtained from the LLRs. The CE module can process the ItCE based at least on a frequency domain orthogonal cover codes (FD-OCC) structure of the reference signals. The reference signals can be demodulation reference signals (DMRS) configured in 5G NR. The CE module can process the ItCE by updating a CE result by adding a quantity that represents a contribution obtained from virtual pilot REs.

Iterative channel estimation for new radio (NR)

A first antenna array includes antenna panels including: first antenna panels arranged on a first circle having a first radius, each of the first antenna panels including antenna elements; and second antenna panels arranged on a second circle having a second radius, each of the second antenna panels including antenna elements, the second circle being concentric with the first circle at a center point, the second antenna panels being arranged at a first angle around the center point with respect to the first antenna panels, the first radius, the second radius, and the first angle being computed in accordance with wireless transmission conditions including: a line-of-sight distance to a second antenna array including third antenna panels arranged on two or more circles; and a carrier frequency of a line-of-sight wireless transmission between the first antenna array and the second antenna array.

Systems and methods for antenna placement for wireless communications

A system and a method are disclosed for estimating antenna misalignments in a line-of-sight wireless communication system and using the estimated antenna misalignments to form an optimal beam that may provide the best performance based on the channel conditions. A receiver determines a rotational estimate and a translational estimate of the receiver with respect to a transmitter, and sends feedback information to the transmitter that is used to determine an optimal beamforming matrix for LOS communications between the receiver and the transmitter. The feedback information includes estimated rotational angles and an estimated translational distance between the receiver and the transmitter, or includes an offset angle between a first plane of antennas of the receiver and a second plane of antennas of the transmitter, a normal vector of the first plane of antennas and the estimated translational distance. The antennas may be antenna arrays or single-element antennas.
