A method includes energizing a light source of a vehicular lamp assembly according to a duty cycle. The light source emits light responsive to being energized. While energizing the light source, and during an off-cycle of the duty cycle, the method includes transmitting an outgoing short-range wireless communication to a user device. The outgoing short-range wireless communication is transmitted from an antenna at the vehicular lamp assembly. During the off-cycle of the duty cycle, the method includes receiving an incoming short-range wireless communication at the antenna at the vehicular lamp assembly. The incoming short-range wireless communication is transmitted from the user device responsive to the outgoing short-range wireless communication.

The system may include a plurality of first antennas to interface signals with a first transceiver as part of a first wireless system and a plurality of second antennas to interface signals with a second transceiver as part of a second wireless system. In an exemplary embodiment, a vehicle is provided that includes an antenna and a telematics system. The telematics system is configured to be coupled to the antenna, and includes a processor that is configured to at least facilitate: determining whether power to an antenna of the vehicle would result in radiated power emissions that would exceed a regulatory requirement; and reducing power to the antenna when it is determined that the power to the antenna would result in radiated power emissions that would exceed the regulatory requirement.

A MIMO system is provided for a vehicle having an exterior structure and an enclosure. The system includes external antennas attached to the exterior structure and internal antennas positioned within the enclosure. The system further includes an RF transceiver and an antenna selecting device. The selecting device is disposable between a first state where the selecting device is configured to operably connect at least two of the external antennas to the RF transceiver and a second state where the selecting device is configured to operably connect one or more of the external antennas and one or more of the internal antennas to the RF transceiver. A controller is configured to actuate the selecting device to move to the second state, in response to the signal strength being above an upper strength threshold, and in further response to the ratio being above an upper ratio threshold.

System and method for MIMO wireless communication for a motor vehicle

In an exemplary embodiment, a vehicle includes antennas in proximity to one another; amplifiers; a computer memory; and a computer processor. The amplifiers are coupled to or part of the antennas. The computer memory stores a predetermined cases map that lists, for each of a plurality of combinations of frequencies for antennas, the predetermined cases map specifying, for each combination of frequencies, an amount of uplink RF power reduction required to reduce the degradation below a predetermined threshold. The computer processor is configured to retrieve, from the computer memory, the predetermined cases map; determine a current frequency combination for a current plurality of frequencies of the antennas of the vehicle; and provide instructions to one or more of the amplifiers to adjust a maximum RF power of one or more of the antennas, to thereby reduce receiver performance degradation between the antennas.

Antenna uplink power control to avoid performance degradation

A communication system for a vehicle includes a transceiver and a telematics control module. The transceiver receives data from a network device using first antennas disposed external to a vehicle and second antennas disposed internal to the vehicle. The transceiver receives the data using a first antenna combination including two antennas, which include one or more of the first antennas or one or more of the second antennas. The telematics control module: reads channel state information including reference signal received power (RSRP) and rank indicator (RI) values; determines if the RSRP value is greater than a threshold value and the RI value is less than a minimum number of antennas being used to transfer the data; and based on the first RSRP value being greater than the threshold value and the RI value being less than the number of antennas, switches from the first to a second antenna combination.
