A milling cutting has a rotatable cylindrical tool carrier and is provided with polygonal cutting inserts including radial cutting inserts on the sides of the carrier and longitudinal cutting inserts on the cylindrical periphery which alternate with the radial inserts. The tangential cutting inserts have their cutting edges inclined to the axis or rotation at about 25&deg; and have their rear most parts at a spacing from the cutting edge of the next following radial insert of less than 5 mm. The tool is especially useful for machining the cheeks and pins of a crank shaft.
