A polyisocyanate-based elastomer having a ratio of the storage modulus (E') at 20&#xb0; C. and the storage modulus (E&#x2032;) at 120&#xb0; C. of between 0.75 and 1.5, a tan &#x3b4; at 100&#xb0; C. of less than 0.1 and a maximum value of the tan &#x3b4; of more than 0.8, the tan &#x3b4; being the ratio of the loss modulus (E&#x2033;) and the storage modulus (E&#x2032;).

Process for preparing a flexible polyurethane foam by reacting a polyisocyanate and two different polyols under foam forming conditions so as to prepare a rigid foam and by crushing the rigid foam so obtained. Flexible foams are obtained which do not show a major glass transition temperature between &minus;100&deg; C. and &plus;25&deg; C.

Flexible polyurethane foams

Process for preparing a flexible polyurethane foam by reacting a polyisocyanate and two different polyols under foam forming conditions so as to prepare a rigid foam and by crushing the rigid foam so obtained in a direction perpendicular to the direction of rise of the foam. Flexible foams are obtained which do not show a major glass transition temperature between &minus;100&deg; C. and &plus;25&deg; C. and which have an anisotropy of 1.80 to 4.00.

Polyisocyanate composition comprising a Group IVB metal compound, preferably a titanium chelate, optionally in combination with a compatibilizing compound and/or conventional release agents and the use thereof in binding lignocellulosic material.

Compatibilizing agent being the reaction product of an organic mono- or polyfunctional isocyanate and a compound corresponding to the following general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 (same or different) represent O or S; n and n' (same or different) represent an integer of from 0 to 1, R and R' (same or different) represent an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 1 to 30 carbon atoms and wherein the sum of the total number of carbon atoms of R and R' is between 7 and 40, and its use for improving the release performance of metal carboxylate containing polyisocyanate compositions for woodbinding.

Compatibilising agents

A method for the preparation of a flexible foam, an integral skin foam or a microcellular elastomer by reacting an organic polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive composition comprising at least one isocyanate-reactive compound of molecular weight of 1000 to 10000 and a functionality of 2 to 4 in the presence of a blowing agent, characterized in that the reaction is conducted in the presence of an inert, insoluble, organic liquid which has a boiling point of at least 60.degree. C. at 1 bar. CFC-free foams and elastomers of good quality are obtainable.
