A communications system connecting mobile subscriber devices to at least one of a PSTN and a plurality of PBX networks comprising a plurality of network interface units coupled to one of a PSTN and a PBX network, each of the plurality of network interface units having a predetermined coverage area; at least one mobile subscriber device, the mobile subscriber device assigned to one network interface unit considered a home network interface unit, and the mobile subscriber device receives a port assignment through the home network interface unit from one of the PSTN and the PBX network coupled to the home network interface unit, the PSTN port assignment determining the mobile subscriber device directory number, and the PBX network port assignment determining the mobile subscriber device extension number; a wireless access unit coupled to each of the plurality of network interface units and providing wireless connection between the network interface unit and a mobile subscriber device within the coverage area of the network interface unit; and a programmable cross-connect device connecting the plurality of network interface units and dynamically cross connecting calls between the home network interface unit of the mobile subscriber device and a visited network interface unit as part of call origination and termination process, the visited network interface unit covering a geographic region within which the mobile subscriber device is roaming.

Hybrid public/private wireless network with seamless roaming

Communications system comprising a set of interface devices adapted to be coupled to a public switch telephone network (PSTN) and radio transceivers. The interface devices are configured to serve in various geographic regions. The radio transceivers are coupled to the interface devices in the set of interface devices. The radio transceivers are for communication with mobile subscribers. The mobile subscribers each have a home region. The circuitry coupled to the set of interfaces routes a call through a path including an interface device that serves the mobile subscriber's home region, for a call involving the PSTN and a mobile subscriber located outside the mobile subscriber's home region.

Method and apparatus for roaming in hierarchical mobile communications network

A method for providing interactive wireless gaming using standard wireless communication devices comprising; receiving a target identity and a delivery location for a game related action from a first game subscriber, wherein the target identity corresponds to a second game subscriber; determining an actual location of the second game subscriber; comparing the actual location of the second game subscriber to the delivery location; and performing game related actions based on the comparison.

Wireless gaming system using standard cellular telephones

A mobile communications system including a plurality of base stations. The system includes a plurality of mobile telephones. Each mobile telephone communicates with at least a base station from the plurality of base station using a timeslot and a frame. The frame has a plurality of timeslots for the base station to use to communicate with the various of the plurality of mobile telephones in a cell covered by the base station. Each mobile telephone has a single radio capable of communication on various frequencies. The radio is not capable of communicating on different frequencies on adjacent timeslots in a frame. A mobile telephone may establish communication with a first base station on a particular timeslot in a frame. If another timeslot is available in the frame in a second base station, communication may be established with the second base station on another timeslot in the frame. The another timeslot is not next to the particular timeslot if the frequency used on the particular timeslot and the another timeslot are different. If the frequencies used on the particular timeslot and the another timeslot are the same, communication may be established with the second base station on the another timeslot in the frame where the another timeslot is next to the particular timeslot or not next to the particular timeslot.

Method and apparatus for handover in TDMA mobile communications system

A mobile communication system including a plurality of base stations. The system includes a plurality of mobile telephones, each of which communicates with at least a base station from the plurality of base stations using frames. A mobile telephone may establish communication with a first base station. If resources are available in a second base station, communication is established with the second base station. The communication occurs with the first and second base stations alternately, on different frames.
