Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to enable simplified configuring of a wireless docking group for wireless devices by allowing a wireless device to communicate its capabilities and characteristics of one or more wireless devices within a wireless docking group, using a new Wireless Docking Protocol, to a wireless docking station that will use that information and the Wireless Docking Protocol to define an optimal set of connections for wireless devices in the wireless docking group.

In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus, a computer program product and a method is provided for establishment of a wireless communication link through machine reading. The example embodiment comprises receiving at least information identifying a wireless communication device through machine reading a machine-readable object, and initiating a wireless communication link establishment with the wireless communication device using the received information, wherein the wireless communication link establishment is incorporated with an indication that a machine-readable object associated with the wireless communication device was read.

A system for expediting IP address assignment. An apparatus that desires to initiate a connection with another apparatus may be deemed an initiator (e.g., or a 'handover requester' in Near Field Communications, or NFC, terminology). In the instance that an apparatus is deemed to be an initiator, a further determination may be made as to whether the initiator is already a member of a network. If the initiator is determined not to already be a member of a network, the initiator may provide IP address configuration information usable by the other apparatus for assigning an IP address to the initiator. The IP address that is set in the initiator may then be based on an IP address provided to the initiator by the other apparatus in response to the previously sent IP address configuration information.

Various example embodiments are disclosed herein. According to an example embodiment, a technique may include allocating periodic resources to a mobile station in a wireless network for transmission of voice data, receiving from the mobile station an indication of a start of a silence period, and adjusting, based on the receiving of the indication of a start of silence period, the allocating of the periodic resources from a size and period of resource for the voice data to a size and period of resource for a silence indication (SID) frame. Alternatively, in response to receiving an indication of a start of silence period, the allocating of periodic resources for the VoIP voice data may be temporarily stopped during the silence period.

A system for managing wireless communication in view of other potentially interfering wireless signal sources. Signal-related information may be collected from one or more apparatuses that are participating in a network. The information may then be evaluated in order to determine expected signal activity in the environment in which the apparatuses are operating. In some instances the signal activity may then be compared to a scan schedule utilized, for example, to identify legacy apparatuses operating in the environment. This scan schedule may be altered to avoid potential conflicts that may exist with the expected signal activity. The scan schedule may then be communicated to the networked apparatuses.

A method and a GGSN support node for sending data packets to a mobile station in a mobile communications system from an external communication system. The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system. The modified characteristics parameters are used to configure the use of a compression method for each simultaneous radio bearer of the terminal.

Configuring compression in packet-switched data transmisson

A data packet transmission method in a packet-switched telecommunication system. A telecommunication protocol comprises a convergence protocol layer for adapting user data packets to convergence protocol packets and a link layer for transmitting the convergence protocol packets as data units and for acknowledging the transmission. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets to be transmitted. The convergence protocol packets are transferred to the link layer to be transmitted. A data packet number is defined for the received convergence protocol packets and the received convergence protocol packets are acknowledged to the transmitter. The identification data of any convergence protocol packets lost on the link layer are transmitted to the recipient. The counter value of the recipient is updated to correspond to the counter value of the transmitter, to take into account the lost convergence protocol packets.
