Separation of chlorosilane mixtures containing boron, arsenic, and/or phosphorus impurities is facilitated by a distillative separation using at least one divided column, with recycle streams to a first column being passed through an external absorbent for the impurities.

Efficient distillative separation of an at least three component mixture containing high boiler, medium boiler and low boiler components is accomplished by interposing a column having a stripping section and a rectifying section separated from each other by a horizontal impermeable dividing wall between conventional distillation columns. A method and apparatus for distillative separation of a mixture comprising three or more components including at least one low boiler, at least one medium boiler, and at least one high boiler, the method comprising feeding the mixture of three or more components to a first distillation column, removing the at least one high boiler as a bottom fraction from the first distillation column, feeding a top fraction of the first distillation column to a second distillation column, removing the at least one medium boiler via a sidestream takeoff from the second distillation column, removing the at least one low boiler as a top fraction from the second distillation column, and feeding a bottom takeoff stream from the second distillation column to the first distillation column as a reflux, wherein the first and the second distillation columns have vertical dividing walls.

Method and apparatus for the separation by distillation of a three- or multi-component mixture

The invention relates to a process for purifying chlorosilanes by distillation, which includes providing a boron-containing mixture of chlorosilanes containing TCS, DCS and STC and purifying the mixture of chlorosilanes by distillation in a plurality of distillation columns, wherein low-boiling boron compounds are branched off from the distillation columns by overhead streams containing boron-enriched DCS and high-boiling boron compounds are branched off by a boron-enriched bottom stream containing high boilers.
