The invention relates to a polymer comprising certain specific units. The invention further relates to processes for making the polymer of the invention. The invention further relates to a binder and compositions comprising the polymer, preferably to compositions suitable for paints and coatings. The invention relates in particular to water-borne, solvent-borne and powder coating compositions and preferably to curable water-borne, curable solvent-borne and curable powder coating compositions. The invention further relates to cured compositions. The invention further relates to objects, in particular coatings prepared from the compositions of the invention. The invention further relates to processes for making the compositions of the invention. The invention further relates to articles having coated thereon the compositions of the invention. The invention further relates to articles having coated and cured thereon the compositions of the invention. The invention further relates to various uses of the polymer of the invention, the binder of the invention, the composition of the invention, the cured composition of the invention and various uses of articles having coated and optionally cured thereon the compositions of the invention.

Polymers, processes, compositions and uses

Polymers and methods of making the same are described whereby the polymers generically include one or more units each of which necessarily has a 1,2,4-substituted cyclohexane group or a 1,1,2,4-substituted cyclohexane group. According to specific disclosures herein, polymers and methods of making the same are described whereby the polymers have one or more S1 units represented by the formula: wherein n is an integer equal to or higher than 1, m is 0 or 1, A is H or CH, and wherein each of X and Y is a specifically defined group.

The disclosure relates to a heat curable powder coating composition suitable for being cured at a temperature from 60 to 130&#xb0; C. containing: a thermal initiation system and a resin system, wherein the reactivity of the thermal initiation system is such that the thermal initiation system provides a geltime between 2.5 and 1000 minutes at 60&#xb0; C. in butane diol-dimethacrylate as measured according to DIN 16945 using 1 wt % of the thermal initiation system in 99 wt % of butane dioldimethacrylate, wherein the amount of thermal initiation system is chosen such that when the powder coating composition is applied to a substrate and cured at a temperature of 130&#xb0; C. for 20 minutes.

Heat-curable powder coating composition

The invention relates to a one component heat curable powder coating composition comprising a resin containing reactive unsaturations and wherein all said reactive unsaturations are carbon carbon double bonds connected directly to an electron withdrawing group, a thermal initiation system comprising a peroxide chosen from the group of compounds represented by formula (1) wherein Rand Reach independently stand for an optionally substituted alkyl of 1 to 30 C-atoms, wherein the 1 to 30 C-atoms do not include the C-atoms of the substituents or for an optionally substituted aryl of 6 to 18 C-atoms, wherein the 6 to 18 C-atoms do not include the C-atoms of the substituents, and a co-crosslinker chosen from the group of vinylethers, vinyletherurethanes, vinylesters, vinylamides, itaconates, enamines, vinylureas and mixtures thereof.

One component heat-curable powder coating composition

The invention relates to a vinyl functionalized urethane resin (VFUR) useful as a curing agent in thermosetting powder coating compositions, a process for making said vinyl functionalized urethane resin, a vinyl functionalized urethane resin composition (VFURC) useful as a curing agent in thermosetting powder coating compositions, a process for making vinyl functionalized urethane resin composition, a thermosetting powder coating composition (TPCC), a process for the preparation thereof, a cured thermosetting powder coating composition, processes for coating an article with said thermosetting powder coating composition and an article coated with said thermosetting powder coating composition as well as uses of the vinyl functionalized urethane resin or of the vinyl functionalized urethane resin composition or of the thermosetting powder coating composition or of the articles having coated and cured thereon said thermosetting powder coating composition. The invention relates also to thermosetting powder coating composition useful for powder-in-mold coating articles such as reinforced polymeric e.g. polyester resin articles and to powder-in-mold coating methods employing the thermosetting powder coating composition and use of the in-mold coated article.

Vinyl functionalized urethane resins for powder coating compositions

The invention relates to a heat-curable powder coating composition comprising i) at least one crystalline polyester resin present in an amount of at most 90 wt %; and ii) at least one amorphous polyester resin; and iii) at least one crosslinking agent; and iv) at least one thermal radical initiator, wherein, the at least one crystalline polyester resin and/or the at least one amorphous polyester resin has di-acid ethylenic unsaturations; wherein the at least one crosslinking agent is either crystalline or amorphous; wherein the at least one crosslinking agent has reactive unsaturations that are reactable with the ethylenic unsaturations of the di-acid ethylenic unsaturations of the at least one crystalline polyester resin and/or the at least one amorphous polyester resin to be crosslinked, said unsaturations of the crosslinking agent are different from the unsaturations of the at least one crystalline polyester resin and the unsaturations of the at least amorphous polyester resin; wherein the wt % is based on the total amount of i)+ii)+iii). The compositions of the invention may be cured to an acceptable degree at low temperature of for example at most 130&#xb0; C. for at most 20 minutes, said compositions may be ground, sieved and extrudable and said compositions can upon heat cure form powder coatings that may also exhibit a good balance of properties between good flexibility, good smoothness and good adhesion. In addition, the compositions of the invention can suitably be used on heat- and/or non heat-sensitive, even if the composition is highly pigmented.
