A transmitting device for emitting light having at least one frequency, the transmitting device being designed to emit light in different angular ranges in such a way that the frequency of the light in the particular angular range is varied in a respective frequency range dependent on time, frequencies in different frequency ranges not overlapping for different angular ranges at different times.

A lidar device having an integrated optics that has a beam deflecting unit having an optical phase array that has a multiplicity of antennas that are set up to emit electromagnetic radiation at a prespecified angle of radiation. The angle of radiation covers a prespecified field of view of the lidar device. The angle of radiation has a first angle of radiation subregion, in which electromagnetic radiation is emitted having a polarization A, and has a second angle of radiation subregion, in which electromagnetic radiation is emitted having a polarization B.

An optical switch includes a first bus waveguide supported by a substrate, an optical antenna suspended over the first bus waveguide via a spring, and interdigitated electrodes coupling the substrate with optical antenna and configured to control a position of the optical antenna relative to the first bus waveguide. When a voltage difference applied to the interdigitated electrodes is less than a lower threshold, the optical antenna is at a first position offset from the first bus waveguide, when the voltage difference applied to the interdigitated electrodes is greater than an upper threshold, the optical antenna is at a second position offset from the first bus waveguide, and the offset at the second position is greater than at the first position.

In-plane MEMS optical switch

An optical switch includes a bus waveguide supported by a substrate, a coupling waveguide suspended over the bus waveguide, a reaction electrode coupled with, and adjacent to, the coupling waveguide, an actuation electrode supported by the substrate and configured to control a position of the coupling waveguide relative to the bus waveguide via the reaction electrode, and an optical antenna coupled with the coupling waveguide and disposed at a fixed distance from the bus waveguide. When a voltage difference between the reaction electrode and the actuation electrode is less than a lower threshold, the coupling waveguide is positioned a first distance from the bus waveguide, when the voltage difference between the reaction electrode and the actuation electrode is greater than an upper threshold, the coupling waveguide is positioned a second distance from the bus waveguide, and the second distance is less than the first distance.

MEMS optical switch with a cantilever coupler

An optical phase shifter is described, which includes an optical waveguide which is realized in a substrate and has an optical conduction surface within the substrate, the optical conduction surface including at least a first region having a first doping and at least two second regions having a second doping that differs from the first doping. The first region is situated between the two second regions.

Optical bipolar phase shifter

A transmitter for an optical device includes semi-conductor waveguides, each incorporating an electro-optic phase-shifter in the semi-conductor waveguide that is operable to change the refractive index of the waveguide to thereby introduce a phase shift in the light propagated through the waveguide. The electro-optic is connected to a phase shift controller and to a temperature measurement component, such as a PTAT circuit, that is integrated into the electronic or photonic chip carrying the waveguide. Temperature measurement by the measurement component can be multiplexed with the normal operation of the phase-shifter so that the temperature measurement function does not interfere with the phase shifting function.
