An electric pole pruner having a spring returned cutting head and equipped with a drive unit having an electric motor coupled to a drum via an epicyclic gear assembly is configured to reduce rotation speed and to increase torque. A string element is coupled to the drum of the drive unit, and to the cutting head so as to actuate the cutting head. The pole pruner further includes a locking arrangement to selectively lock or release a ring gear of the gear assembly so as to convert rotation of the electric motor into rotation of the drum when the ring gear is locked, and to convert rotation of the drum into rotation of the ring gear when the ring gear is released.

Pruning shears include a cutting head with a spring-biased blade; a driving line connected at a first end to the blade; an elongated body; a handle; and a frusto-conical shaped wheel connected rotatably to the handle. The diameter of the wheel at a first end being smaller than the diameter at a second end. The line is wound into a spiral groove around the wheel at the first end; a second end of the line is attached to a second end of the elongated body; and the line wound around the wheel moves toward the second end of the wheel when unwinding a part of the line from around the wheel and winding another part of the line around the wheel for decreasing the distance between the first and second ends of the line, resulting in movement of the blade in relation to the jaw, when the handle is moved.

Pruning shears with frusto-conical wheel

Pruning shears include a cutting head with a spring-biased blade pivotally connected to a jaw and arranged to sever a workpiece received in a bight formed by the jaw. A drive mechanism is connected to the cutting head and an elongate housing is connected to the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a rotation preventer for preventing rotation of a second pulley in relation to the drive mechanism when a drawing torque is applied to the second pulley. The drawing torque is greater than a threshold torque, resulting in a second pulley being stationary in relation to the drive mechanism and the first pulley rotating in relation to the drive mechanism.
