Muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, especially for motor vehicles with hybrid drive

A sound generator () mounts on a vehicle to manipulate vehicle noise originating from a vehicle operated by an internal combustion engine. The sound generator () includes a casing (), a loudspeaker (), and at least one pressure compensation valve (). The loudspeaker () and the casing () together thereby enclose a volume (). Further, the pressure compensation valve () couples the volume () enclosed by the loudspeaker () and the casing to an outside of the casing (). The pressure compensation valve () thereby extends through a plane in which the loudspeaker () is located. A system () for manipulating sound waves propagating through exhaust systems of vehicles driven by an internal combustion engine uses the above sound generator ().

Sound generator for mounting on a vehicle to manipulate vehicle noise

An exhaust gas stream for an internal combustion engine includes a muffler housing () with a first chamber () and a second chamber (). An exhaust gas inlet () has a first chamber opening area () and a second chamber opening area (). An exhaust gas outlet () is open in an outlet opening area () towards the first chamber. A connection opening () is provided between the first chamber and the second chamber and has an exhaust valve arrangement associated therewith, including a valve element () including a closing area () closing the connection opening in a closed position of the exhaust valve arrangement (). The exhaust valve arrangement includes an actuating area () associated with the inlet second opening area for generating an actuating force acting on the exhaust valve arrangement, moving from the closed position in the direction of an open position by exhaust gas bypass flow.

Exhaust muffler

The present invention relates to an active sound absorber () for an exhaust system () of an internal combustion engine, preferably of a motor vehicle, comprising a housing (), a connecting pipe () for the acoustic and fluidic connecting of the housing () with the exhaust system (), an active membrane () which in the housing () separates a front volume (), fluidically connected with the connecting pipe (), from a back volume (), and an actuator () for vibration stimulation of the active membrane (). A risk of damage by condensate in the back volume () can be reduced by at least one condensation line (), which fluidically connects the back volume () with the front volume (), in which vapor contained in the exhaust gas condenses, and which directs the condensate which occurs to the front volume ().

Active sound absorbers

The present invention relates to a method for operating a piston engine, more preferably of a motor vehicle, with a fresh air system for feeding fresh air to cylinders of the piston engine and with an exhaust system for discharging exhaust gas from the cylinders, wherein during a gas exchange by a positive pressure wave on the fresh air side the charging of the respective cylinder with fresh air and/or by a negative pressure wave on the exhaust gas side the discharging of exhaust gas from the respective cylinder is supported. An increased variability is obtained if the respective pressure wave is generated by at least one electroacoustic converter.

Piston engine, method and use

An exhaust system component () of an exhaust system () for an internal combustion engine, especially of a motor vehicle has an inner pipe () made of metal, which is exposed to exhaust gas during the operation of the exhaust system (), a housing () made of plastic, which encloses a working space (), and an outer pipe () made of metal. The outer pipe () is fastened at a first end area () to the inner pipe () and is rigidly connected at a second end area () to the housing () and encloses between these end areas () an annular space () formed radially between the inner pipe () and outer pipe ().

Exhaust system component

An exhaust system () for an internal combustion engine (), especially of a motor vehicle (), is provided with at least one exhaust pipe (), which carries an exhaust gas flow () away from the internal combustion engine () during the operation of the internal combustion engine (). An active exhaust muffler () is provided with a housing () that is acoustically connected to the exhaust pipe () via a connection pipe (). Damage to the exhaust muffler () is avoided by actively and/or passively cooling the connection pipe ().

The present invention to an active muffler for an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine, in particular in a motor vehicle, includes a multi-shell housing having a pot-shaped top shell and a pot-shaped bottom shell, a funnel-shaped sound conducting body, which is inserted into the bottom shell and has a connection passing through the bottom shell and out of the housing, a loudspeaker, which is situated in the top shell and is attached to a flange section of the sound conducting body at a distance from the connection, such that a free inside cross section of the sound conducting body surrounded by the flange section is closed with an airtight seal, and a bypass through which an interior space of the top shell is connected to an interior space of the bottom shell so they communicate.

Active muffler

The invention relates to a silencer for an airborne sound conducting pipe system, including a housing enclosing an interior space, an inlet pipe having an outlet within the interior space, a bypass pipe branching off from inlet pipe within the housing and having an outlet, a control element actuated by the gas flow and arranged downstream of bypass pipe on or in the inlet pipe, and at least one outlet pipe having an inlet within the interior space. Furthermore, the interior space is acoustically unseparated in such a manner that the volume of the interior space loaded with the airborne sound is equal with opened and with closed control element.

Silencer

An exhaust system () is provided for an internal combustion engine (), especially in a motor vehicle, with two separate exhaust gas lines () with a first sound transmission feature (), which couples the two exhaust gas lines () with one another, and with a control () for activating and deactivating the first sound transmission connection () as a function of at least one operating parameter of the internal combustion engine (). To improve the muffling behavior, a second sound transmission connection () is provided, which couples the two exhaust gas lines () with one another downstream of the first sound transmission connection (), and makes possible, depending on the particular operating parameter, three switching states (SZ), namely, a first switching state, in which both sound transmission connections () are deactivated, a second switching state, in which only one sound transmission connection () is activated, and a third switching state, in which both sound transmission connections () are activated.

A conveying member, especially a rotor or stator, for conveying a flowable, preferably gaseous medium, comprises a plurality of blades (S-S) arranged following each other with a circumferential distance in a circumferential direction (U) around a central axis (A). Either a first circumferential distance (a) or a second circumferential distance (b) differing from the first circumferential distance (a) is provided between a blade and a respective blade following it in the circumferential direction (U) in a group of blades directly following each other in a circumferential direction (U), which the group comprises at least some of the blades (S-S). The first circumferential distance (a) is provided between at least two blades (S-S) located directly adjacent to one another, and the second circumferential distance is provided between at least two blades (S-S) located directly adjacent to one another.

Conveying member, especially rotor or stator, for conveying a flowable, preferably gaseous medium

An active exhaust muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, having a housing through which a pipe system passes, the pipe system designed to be permeable for airborne sound in a first space, having an antisound generator which is arranged in a second space and antisound acting upon a third space through a wall opening during operation, the wall opening being provided in a partition that separates the second space from the third space, whereby airborne sound is transmitted from the first space to the third space through a sound outlet. To increase the lifetime of the antisound generator and thus the exhaust muffler, a labyrinth is provided in the third space, blocking a direct path between the sound outlet and the wall opening, and providing at least one indirect bypass for the propagation of airborne sound between the sound outlet and the wall opening.
