An optical module for a head-mounted device is configured to present content to a user. The optical module includes an optical module housing assembly, a display assembly, and an eye camera. The optical module housing assembly has a first end and a second end. The lens is connected to the optical module housing assembly and positioned at the first end of the optical module housing assembly. The display assembly is connected to the optical module housing assembly and is positioned at the second end of the optical module housing assembly. The display assembly is configured to cause the content to be displayed to the user through the lens. The eye camera is connected to the optical module housing assembly and is positioned at the second end of the optical module housing assembly. The eye camera is configured to obtain images through the lens.

Optical module for head-mounted device

A head-mounted display a housing, two display modules, and a head support. The two display modules are coupled to the housing. Each of the two display modules includes a display for outputting light that forms graphical content, a lens for refracting the light output by the display, and an eye illuminator. The eye illuminator includes a light-emitting diode, a flexible circuit to which the light-emitting diode is coupled, and a stiffener laminated to the flexible circuit with one or fewer layers of adhesive. The lens is removably coupled to the display indirectly by the stiffener. The head support is coupled to the housing for supporting the housing on a head of a user with the two display modules positioned to provide the graphical content to eyes of the user.

Head-mounted display and display modules thereof

A head-mountable device can provide an optical module that removes particles from an optical pathway and captures the particles so they do not interfere with the user's view of and/or through optical elements. For example, the display element and/or another optical element can be moved in a manner that releases particles on a viewing surface thereof. The optical module can include a particle retention element that securely retains the particles so that they remain outside of the optical pathway. Such particle removal and retention can improve and maintain the quality of a user's visual experience via the optical module.

Particle control for head-mount able device

A head-mountable device can include an optical module that provides a display element and/or an optical element that are adjustably mounted. The display element and/or another optical element can be adjusted by actuation of a mechanism that allows the display element and/or the optical element to move in one or more (e.g., six) degrees of freedom (roll, pitch, and yaw). The actuation allows for the position of the display element to be adjusted relative to the optical element to correct for any displacements caused during operation of the head-mountable device. One or more sensors within the optical module or external to the optical module and/or the head-mountable device can detect the position of the display at an initial state as well as thereafter. The sensors can check for changes in the position of the components to provide a basis for the actuation.

Optical adjustment for head-mountable device

A head-mounted device may have a display that displays content for a user. Head-mounted support structures in the device support the display on the head of the user. The head-mounted device may have a left lens that directs images from the left portion of the display to a left eye box and a right lens that directs images from the right portion of the display to a right eye box. Each lens may include a lens element that is coupled to the display. The lens element may be attached to the display with a layer of optically clear adhesive or the lens element may be formed from gel that directly contacts the display. The lens element attached to the display may have protrusions or recesses to accommodate input-output components. A single lens element may be attached to both the left and right portions of the display.

A head-mounted display includes an optical assembly and an actuator. The actuator includes a movement mechanism configured to adjust a position of an optical component within the optical assembly, a locking-release mechanism configured to modify operation of the movement mechanism upon detection of a dynamic event, and a dampening mechanism configured to control positional changes of the optical component during the dynamic event.

Adjustment mechanism for head-mounted display

A head-mounted device includes a housing configured to be worn on a head of a user. The housing includes an inlet port and an outlet port. An air circulation device is mounted to the housing and configured to produce a flow of air through an air flow path in the housing that extends from the inlet port to the outlet port. A display assembly is mounted to the housing and has a surface in the air flow path of the housing. An air deflector mounted to the surface of the display assembly and configured to reduce a turbulence of the flow of air through the air flow path.
