Optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) devices include an optical chip having a number of waveguides therein, with a common optical fiber and single wavelength channel optical fibers optically coupled to the waveguides. Wavelength sensitive filters are disposed between the chip and the fibers, or across waveguides within the chip to reflect light at certain wavelengths and to transmit light at other wavelengths. In some embodiments, all of the fibers are located at the same end of the chip, in others the common fiber is located at one side of the chip and the single channel fibers located at another side, while in others the common fiber is located at a first side of the chip and the single channel fibers are located either at the first side of the chip or at a second side of the chip.

Integrated optical wavelength division multiplexing devices

A terminal includes modules adapted to be sequentially assembled together in a serial chain to build the terminal. At least some of the modules each include a module housing, a ruggedized optical output port provided on the module housing, a plug and play input connection location, a plug and play expansion connection location provided on the module housing, and an asymmetric power splitter within the module housing for splitting optical power from the plug and play input location asymmetrically between the ruggedized optical output port and the plug and play expansion connection location. The plug and play input connection locations and the plug and play expansion connection locations of adjacent modules in the serial chain are adapted to mate with respect to one another.

A power and data connectivity micro grid includes a first power sourcing equipment device having first and second power ports and first and second data ports, and configured to deliver DC power signals to the first and second power ports. The micro grid further includes first and second remote distribution nodes, and first and second splice enclosures, each splice enclosure having a power input port, a data input port, a power tap port, a data tap port, a power output port and a data output port. A first composite power-data cable is coupled between the first power port and the first data port of the first power sourcing equipment device and the power input port and the data input port of the first splice enclosure. A second composite power-data cable is coupled between the second power port and the second data port of the first power sourcing equipment device and the power input port and the data input port of the second splice enclosure. The power tap port and the data tap port of the first splice enclosure are coupled to a power input port and a data input port of the first remote distribution node, respectively.

Plug-in power and data connectivity micro grids for information and communication technology infrastructure and related methods of deploying such micro grids

Embodiments include a power distribution access network comprising power sourcing equipment (PSE) having a hybrid power-data port and at least one remote distribution node coupled to the PSE. The PSE delivers power at a first voltage to the distribution node and the distribution node delivers power at a second voltage to a remote device. Delivery of power to the distribution nodes may be based on information from the distribution node. Other embodiments include a power distribution access network with remote distribution nodes daisy-chained together by hybrid power-data cables so that a power line and a plurality of optical lines pass along the distribution nodes. The optical lines sequentially drop off along the chain and a remainder of the optical lines is indexed at each distribution node. Remote powered devices are coupled to the distribution nodes. Each remote powered device receives power and optical signals from the respective remote distribution node.

Systems and methods for high capacity power delivery to remote nodes

Signal distribution arrangements are assembled by selecting a terminal body and a tap module combination that provides the desired signal strength at the intended position in an optical network. Each terminal body includes an input connection interface, a pass-through connection interface, a module connection interface, and multiple drop connection interfaces. Each tap module houses an optical tap having an asymmetric split ratio. Most of the optical signal power received at the signal distribution arrangement passes to the pass-through connection interface. A portion of the optical signal power is routed to the drop connection interfaces (e.g., via a symmetrical optical power splitter). The tap module and terminal body combination are selected based on the desired number of drop connection interfaces and to balance the asymmetric split ratio with the symmetric split ratio.

A converter module comprises a housing; a fiber optic connector integrated with the housing, wherein the fiber optic connector is configured to mount directly to a fiber optic connector in a service terminal; a single electrical connector configured to couple to a metallic medium; and an optical-to-electrical (O/E) converter located in the housing and coupled to the fiber optic connector and the single electrical connector, the O/E converter configured to convert between optical frames communicated via the fiber optic connector and electrical signals communicated via the metallic medium.

Optical network converter module

The invention is directed to a system and method for troubleshooting in an optical data network that has a laser transmitter/receiver unit that outputs a data signal and an OTDR unit that produces an OTDR probe signal. The data and OTDR probe signals, typically at different wavelengths, are coupled into one end of a trunk fiber which is coupled at its far end to an optical circuit that includes a number of wavelength-selective optical switches and has multiple outputs that are directed to different end users. The optical switches are configurable so as to provide the OTDR probe signal to only one of the optical circuit's outputs while maintaining the data signal at the same output, while also maintaining the data signal, without the OTDR probe signal, at other outputs.

Systems and methods for automated broadband distribution point unit powering are provided. In one embodiment, an upstream service disconnect unit comprises: a processor; a relay control; and a switching relay coupled to a upstream service delivery unit, a first end of an electrical conductor span, and a access network distribution point unit that is coupled to an optical fiber network, wherein a second end of the electrical conductor span is coupled to a customer premises equipment DSL modem; wherein the upstream service disconnect unit is configured to energize the processor, the relay control, and the switching relay and to operate the switching relay to couple the electrical conductor span with the access network distribution point unit by tapping power of a trigger signal drawn from the electrical conductor span.

Systems and methods for automated broadband distribution point unit powering

A single line converter module comprises a housing; an environmentally hardened fiber optic connector located in the housing and configured to be optically coupled to a service terminal for receiving downstream optical frames; a single electrical connector located in the housing and coupled over a metallic medium to a network terminal providing a service to respective customer premise equipment (CPE); and an optical-to-electrical (O/E) converter located in the housing and configured to convert the downstream optical frames to an electrical signal for transmission over the metallic medium to the network terminal.

Single line passive optical network converter module

One embodiment is directed to a wireless drop terminal (WDT) for use in a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. The wireless drop terminal comprises a fiber interface to optically couple the wireless drop terminal to an optical line terminal (OLT) of the FTTH network via at least one optical fiber and a wireless interface communicatively coupled to the fiber interface. The wireless interface is configured to wirelessly communicate with a wireless optical network terminal (W-ONT) over a directional wireless drop. Other embodiments are disclosed.
