An apparatus, and an associated method, for directing communications of a communication session to a selected communication device, or devices, of a group of commonly-registered devices. A device-direction policy is created and stored at a network entity. The policy identifies preferred devices to which communications of a communication session are to be provided. A SIP Invite, or other communication-session initiation message, is provided to the network entity. The network entity detects the message, accesses the policy, and forwards on the message in accordance with the policy.

Apparatus and method for directing a communication session to a communication device of a group of devices having a common registration identity

In one embodiment, a wireless mobile User Equipment (UE) device comprises a message generator configured to send a SIP request message via a first IP network and a processor configured to process a SIP response message received from a network node via the first IP network, the processor further configured to process instructions to provide a treatment for at least one message body content of the SIP response message based on a value of a content type indicator independent of at least one of an absence of a content disposition indicator, a content disposition indicator without a value and a content disposition indicator having a value. The treatment, applied by the UE device, may comprise one of: (i) performing an Emergency Services (ES) call effectuated via a CS network and (ii) performing a registration and an ES call effectuated via an IP network.

Content disposition system and method for processing message content in a distributed environment

In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for negotiating schema information relating to one or more content types of a message body comprised within a message of a communication protocol. A communication protocol message such as a SIP or HTTP message is generated by a sender towards a recipient, wherein the message includes a message body. A schema indicator is provided in the communication protocol message to indicate acceptability of variations of a content type of a message body or body part in a response from the recipient.

Schema negotiation for versioned documents transmitted in a distributed environment

In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for facilitating responding to a request in a network environment including IMS. A component associated with a recipient is configured to receive an incoming message from a sender, wherein the incoming message is substantially free of an indication of acceptance by the sender of a body of a particular content type. A component associated with the recipient is configured to provide an outgoing message including at least one body of the particular content type.

System and method of responding to a request in a network environment including IMS

In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for interpreting contents of at least one message body per message, e.g., a SIP or HTTP message, wherein the message body contents correspond to a content type. A communication protocol message such as a SIP or HTTP message is generated by a sender towards a recipient, wherein the message includes at least one message body content in the message's body. A component associated with the recipient is configured to examine whether at least one indicator is associated with the message. A component, operable responsive to the examination, is configured to inhibit a treatment of the message body content and to apply an alternative treatment with respect thereto.

In one embodiment, a message generation scheme is disclosed that is operable with respect to user data information relating to the signaling of an IMS message over a CS network. A number of User Data Items (UDIs) may be configured at one of the entities, e.g., a UE device or a network node, wherein each UDI is operable to contain a plurality of Information Element Identifiers (IEIs). For a select IEI, an Information Element Data Length (IEDL) structure is provided that is operable to indicate a length of data associated with the select IEI, wherein the data comprises at least a portion of the user data information. One or more alternative signaling (AS) messages are generated for transmission to a second entity, wherein the AS messages include one or more of the UDIs.

Message generation system and method for managing the delivery of mobile-terminated (MT) calls in IMS network environment

In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for managing delivery of a Mobile-Terminated (MT) call via an IMS network, wherein the MT call is originated by a calling party towards a User Equipment (UE) device that is CS-attached. An IMS-capable network node is operable to associate the received call information with an IP Multimedia Routing Number (IMRN) and provide the call information and the IMRN via alternative signaling (e.g., USSD or SMS messaging) to the UE device. A Mobile-Originated (MO) call process is initiated by the UE device using the received IMRN as the destination number, which terminates at the network node. Upon verifying that the returned IMRN is valid, the network node bridges the access and remote legs to establish the end-to-end path for the MT call between the UE device and the calling party.

System and method for managing mobile-terminated (MT) calls in IMS network environment using alternative signaling

Apparatus, and an associated method, to facilitate performance of an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) service to a circuit-switched-connected user equipment. The user equipment includes a USSD message generator that generates an initiation message that is sent to a network of a radio communication system. The message is routed through the network to an entity that decodes the USSD message to form an XCAP message. The XCAP message is routed to an associated service node that operates responsive to the XCAP message.
