A method () performed in a client device () is provided for managing constrained devices (), which to at least some extent fail to support a Lightweight Machine to Machine, LWM2M, protocol. The client device () is compatible with a LWM2Mprotocol for communicating with a LWM2M server () and comprises a LWM2Mcontroller object () for management of any discovered constrained device (). The method () comprises discovering () one or more constrained devices (); creating (), for each discovered constrained device (), a respective LWM2M connected device object (), wherein the LWM2M controller object () points at the one or more created LWM2Mconnected deviceobjects (); and exposing () the LWM2M controller object () to the LWM2M server (). Method and devices for managing constrained devices

The present invention relates to multimedia communication between end systems in IP environments and more particularly it relates to the problem that all services concerning processing of media streams are bundled. The solution, according to the invention is a communications system in which a service is publicly available by any end system via a published Uniform Resource Identifier (URI).

Method, gateway system and arrangement in a communication network

An auto-configuration arrangement enables a general-purpose mobile terminal or user equipment (UE) and an access network having specific native or standardized codecs and media formats to conform to one another and to thus optimize resource utilization in the access network. When the UE is attached to the access network, UE and user identifier information is signaled by the UE to a configuration node implemented in the access network. The configuration node acquires information details regarding the UE, and also relevant user subscription information, by retrieval from one or more access network registers. The configuration node then uses the detailed information together with access network specific information to decide what QoS definition and type of codec to select for use, and assembles the selected definitions and codecs, such as by retrieval from a repository. The configuration node sends the selected QoS definitions and codecs to the UE, and the UE configures itself in accordance therewith by means of a configuration layer residing in the UE.

Method and apparatus for auto-configuration for optimum multimedia performance

The invention is concerned with a method in a communication network for invoking services, the communication network including at least one or more terminals and at least two service entities. In the method the terminal deduces necessary support and service components for providing an end-user service. A set of configuration requests is constructed at the terminal, each associated with one or more specific service entities for invoking individual service components composing a service. Each configuration request is forwarded from the terminal to the service entity/entities indirectly, by using a special network support function for configuring service entities&#x2014;the assembler unit of the invention&#x2014;or directly in a way, which is chosen in accordance with pre-defined criteria. The invention is also concerned with a communication network, a terminal and an assembler unit to perform the method.

Communication network and method therein

A method and system in a heterogeneous environment, capable of locating at least one optimal access area or point for supporting one or more access technologies requested by the user. The determination of the optimal access areas or points is based in part on the location of the device, the specified user preferences, service/application requirements and the capabilities of available access network connections. The optimal access points, and alternative options, are mapped in accordance with the resulting location, combined requirements and service/application requirements of the communication device. This mapping and other information/recommendations related to the access points are then provided to the communication device for action by the user.

Access point discovery and selection

Narrowband based telephony services and associated value added services are provided transparently in a network providing ATM switching and no STM switching is required in an ATM network () to which units () requiring such services are connected. This is obtained by means of, when a call enters the ATM network (), first finding the output port () from the ATM network (), then returning the address of that port to the entry port () and thereafter ATM switch the connection directly through the ATM network (). Hereby bandwidth resources are more efficiently used since all switching is done by ATM regardless of application. Heavy investments in providing intelligent services support by existing systems can be reused in an efficient way and thus reduce time to market for the introduction of the value added services.

ATM network providing transparently narrowband based telephony services without requiring ATM-switching

A method of retrieving an address of a previously unknown resource based on the location of the invoking user by consulting a known resource is provided. A user terminal, while roaming, may select an optimal gateway for providing multimedia communications to the terminal by first sending a service request to the terminal's home gateway. In response, the home gateway determines the optimal gateway for use by the user based on the location of the invoking user. The address of the optimal gateway, as determined by the home gateway, is sent to the invoking user terminal, wherein the user sends a service request to the optimal gateway.

Optimal gateway discovery while roaming

The present invention relates to resource reservation for establishing end-to-end quality of service in a digital communication system, without resource reservation signalling over the access bearer. The solution, according to the invention is to remove the resource reservation protocol signalling on the IP level, over the access interface, e.g. the expensive and narrow radio channel, and introduce an resource reservation protocol proxy in the network. The introduction of the proxy functionality still supports the possibility, or meets the requirement, to reserve resources end to end.
