This invention relates to a doser comprising a syringe () with a needle () which extends beyond the doser (), which comprises an engagement face () in the vicinity of the needle so that the engagement face rests against the surface of the tissue into which the needle is inserted. Detector means () are provided on said engagement face to sample signals on the skin of the patient. The invention further provides means () for receiving external information related to health monitoring of a patient. This provides a doser that may record heart rate, EKG, BGM and hypo-alarm administered medicine. The doser may further be arranged to calculate an appropriate dose of medication on the basis of a number of acquired inputs.

Needle insertion sensor

At least one electric discharge lamp capable of generating a broadband output pulse of a range of wavelengths in the visible spectrum, the output pulse having a predetermined time interval and a predetermined total electrical energy input for the pulse, has a drive circuit for delivering energy pulses to the electrical discharge lamp, as well as a sensor for sensing an optical output from the discharge lamp; and a control mechanism for operating the drive circuit in response to variations in optical output detected by the sensor.

Discharge lamp controls

A flashlamp drive circuit including a storage capacitor which is charged and selectively discharged in order to drive a flashlamp. A capacitor () is connected in parallel with each respective flashlamp () in a bank of flashlamps. Each capacitor () has a comparatively small capacitance so as to be capable of storing only a portion of the total energy pulse required to be delivered to the respective flashlamp (). A controller, comprising a digital signal processor () and a microprocessor () is provided to control the operation of all of the flashlamps () in the bank via respective switch mechanisms (). In use, each energy (or drive) pulse delivered to a flashlamp () is comprised of a plurality of smaller energy packets resulting from repeated charging and discharging of the respective capacitor (). Thus, the shape and duration of the current pulses delivered to the flashlamp () is highly controllable and the size of the storage capacitor () required is significantly reduced relative to the prior art.

Flashlamp drive circuit

A device treats skin by radiation. The device has a housing accommodating a radiation source and having an exit opening for the radiation. The device activates the radiation source only if the presence of skin immediately in front of the exit opening is detected. The radiation source cannot be activated if the exit opening is not covered.

Skin treating device comprising a protected radiation exit opening

A device for the treatment of skin by radiation pulses. The device has a detector measuring a biophysical property of skin, such as temperature increase, dispersion or absorption coefficient, or reflection coefficient for light having a predetermined wavelength, and also has a control unit which determines, from the biophysical property, a safe dose of radiation. The device automatically protects against an overdose from the radiation source. The invention can be used, not only in a hair removing device such as a laser epilator, a laser shaver or a flashlight epilator, but also in devices for the medical treatment of skin by means of radiation, such as photodermatology systems.

This invention relates to an system for self treatment. The system consists of several portable modules where one of the modules is designated as a master module. The master module controls, supervises and monitors all the mutual information and data exchange between itself and the rest of the modules. The modules can e.g. consist of a BGM, a doser, an inhaler, a tablet dispenser and a storage container. The modules may be able to generate and store data which is transmitted to the master module if it is within range and active. If the master module is not within range, the data is kept locally in the module until the master module is available or a new master module is designated. The master module or another specific module can send the data to an external unit like a computer or database for further processing. A physician or an expert care-team can access the data in the database and give guidance to the patient on the basis of these processed data. This processing could also be done automatically by utilization of an expert system.

Medical system and a method of controlling the system for use by a patient for medical self treatment

An apparatus for determination of a glucose concentration in a biological matrix includes an irradiation device for irradiating light as primary light into a biological matrix, and a detection device for measuring intensity of light emerging as secondary light through the boundary surface of the biological matrix. The detection device detects light from the irradiation device after the light has propagated along a light path in the biological matrix. A data processing device processes measurement signals from the detection device. The irradiation device provides spatially limited illumination of an irradiation site, and the detection device is configured for spatially limited measurements of the secondary light emerging at the detection site. The detection site is located relative to the irradiation site such that the secondary light is multiply scattered at scattering centers in the biological matrix. The irradiation and detection devices are configured to provide at least two different light paths within the biological matrix during detection measurements, and to perform at least two detection measurements wherein the light paths are different. The detection device generates separate measurement signals for each of the at least two detection measurements. The data processing device converts the separate measurement signals into a signal which corresponds to a glucose concentration in the biological matrix.

Apparatus for analytical determination of glucose in a biological matrix

A method for determining glucose concentration in a biological matrix includes the steps of performing at least two detection measurements. In each detection measurement light is irradiated at a defined irradiation site as primary light into the biological matrix, through a boundary surface thereof. The light is propagated along a light path within the biological matrix. An intensity of the light is measured as the light emerges as secondary light through a defined detection site of the boundary surface. At least one of the detection measurements is a spatially resolved measurement of multiply scattered light. The detection site is located relative to the irradiation site such that light which was multiply scattered at scattering centers in the biological matrix is detected. The light paths of the at least two detection measurements within the biological matrix are different. Glucose concentration is then derived from the dependence of the intensity of the secondary light from the relative position of the irradiation site and the detection site.
