The invention relates to a cleaning apparatus () for releasing and transporting particles away from an area to be cleaned, comprising: a housing () having an opening () to be positioned on an area () to be cleaned;&#x2014;a member that is movable within the apparatus for generating an airflow to release and transport particles away from the area; wherein the member comprises an airflow-generating surface () arranged within the housing (), said airflow-generating surface in its operating condition lacing the area () to be cleaned and having a direction of movement that is substantially parallel to said area so as to cause an airflow parallel to said area. The apparatus according to the invention requires less energy for releasing and transporting particles away from an area to be cleaned.

A cyclonic separator for separating particles and/or liquids from an airflow using means for causing the air to follow a cyclonic flow pattern through the separating chamber () and around an axis () for causing cyclonic separation of a least a portion of the particles and/or liquids from the airflow within the separating chamber (). An interior surface portion of a drum () bounding the separating chamber () and extending circumferentially around the axis () is rotatable about the axis () so that separation of particles and/or liquid from the airflow is improved. A grilling appliance has two housing sections provided with heating plates and connected to each other by means of a pivotable/slidable hinge construction at both sides of the appliance. The housing sections can be positioned with respect to each other in several positions in which the heating plates should remain parallel to each other. In order to improve the hinge construction a parallel guiding mechanism has been provided, which mechanism comprises a U-shaped rod (,) having a central portion (,) which can slide in slots (,) of the first housing section (,) and having arms (,) carrying trunnions (,) which are pivotable in the second housing section (,) and slidable in the first housing section (,).

A toaster has a guide mechanism for a slice support (7), which mechanism comprises a substantially U-shaped rod (15) having a central portion (16) parallel to the longitudinal direction of the slice support and having two arms (17, 18) which are each supported in the respective ends (8, 9) of the slice support as well as in a frame (1) of the toaster.

A deep-frying device comprising a reservoir, a discharge channel for discharging fumes, and a converter for converting volatile organic compounds into carbon dioxide and water, has a passage for the admixture of ambient air to the fumes exuded during deep-frying. This provides an improved odour reduction. In the case of upstream admixture additional oxygen is available, as a result of which a more complete conversion is achieved. In the case of downstream admixture, conversion is possible at a higher temperature without a corresponding rise in the temperature of the discharged mixture.

A dust separator (1, 2) is provided for removing particles from a gas, provided with a centrifuge (3) which is rotatable about a central axis and which comprises at least two centrifuge chambers (7, 9). A first centrifuge chamber (7) is connected at one side to a gas inlet (11) and an opposing other side to a gas reversal chamber (13) which in its turn is connected to a second centrifuge chamber (9) which comprises a filter (17) and which concentrically surrounds the first centrifuge chamber (7).

The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a heating element from a flat metal foil blank in which strips (1) are formed whose ends (2) are interconnected by connecting portions (3, 4) with alternate connecting portions disposed at opposite ends of the strips so as to form a meandering pattern and to a heating appliance incorporating such a heating element. In order to make such a foil heating element suitable for use in appliances in which an air stream to be heated passes over the foil heating element the connecting portions (3, 4) are bent in such a way that the strips (1) are tilted out of the plane of the foil blank. Preferably the strips are disposed an an angle .alpha. between 45.degree. and 90.degree. relative to the plane.

A shaving apparatus comprising a shear plate with apertures and a cutting unit which is drivable relative to the shear plate and comprises a central body provided with cutting elements. Each cutting element has an associated hair-pulling element which precedes the cutting element in the direction of driving. Each combination of a cutting element and an associated hair-pulling element is formed by the limbs of a substantially U-shaped member of a sheet material which may be manufactured as a separate part.
