A method for processing a print job on a document processing system including a plurality of devices which includes at least one printer and at least one finisher in order to deliver an end print product according to print specifications of the print job. Each device is described in a dedicated device model including constraints and capabilities of the device. The method includes receiving a print job with print specifications, generating a production route for the end product by selecting at least one printer and at least one finisher to deliver the end product, simulating the production route for the end product by executing the device models for the selected devices, generating finishing instructions for the at least one finisher, and processing the print job by printing the end product by the at least one printer and by finishing the end product by the at least one finisher according to the generated finishing instructions.

Document processing system for processing a printjob including a production route simulation

A document processing system includes a print controller and a user interface for displaying production routes for a print job leading to an end product due to printing by at least one printer and finishing by at least one finisher. The user interface is configured to receive a user selection of a document type of the print job and at least one selection criterion for the print job. The print controller is configured to determine production routes based on simulation of the print job by device models for the at least one printer and the at least one finisher, and to select from the determined production routes a production route with smart settings which corresponds to the document type and fulfills the selection criterion.

A system and a method for automatically processing a plurality of sheets. The method includes receiving printing instructions, receiving finishing instructions, after printing, in order to form a stack of printed and finished sheets, the finishing instructions includes an instruction to create a new target stack edge extending in a direction of a stack height on each of the plurality of sheets, printing a mark on each sheet of a group of sheets of the plurality of sheets, the mark intended to hit the new target stack edge in a group of at least one target hit point, and finishing the plurality of printed sheets according to the finishing instructions to create a new actual stack edge. A plurality of actual hit points form a pattern on the new actual stack edge and comprises a continuous proportional indication for a degree of correctness of the printing and/or finishing operation.

The operating device comprises a display screen for the display of apparatus functions for selection, a first selection device for selecting a group of apparatus functions to be displayed on the display screen, and a second selection device for selecting the displayed apparatus functions or options thereof. The apparatus functions are grouped in a first group of apparatus functions relating to all the document sheets of a document for scanning, copying or printing, a second group relating to a specific document sheet of a document and a third group relating to a specific area of a specific document sheet.
