A controlling unit retrieves information regarding system interconnect topology and assigns unique address to all connected units without the need for any prior configuration. An added unit with cascading ports will be able to use the address assignment that enables the controller to avoid address collisions between connected units. In short, the disclosure provides the system of interconnected units with a 'plug and play' capability.

Disclosed is a power supply unit, PSU, for wirelessly powering components of a radio base station, RBS, such as a radio unit, RU, transmission units (TMR) and a baseband digital unit, BDU. The PSU includes a TX coil for generating an energy field that is used to induce a current and voltage in an RX coil that is part of a component of the base station. The need for power cables, which are inefficient at transferring energy, is therefore greatly reduced. Hence, the energy efficiency of the RBS is increased.

A system in radio communication comprising a controller, a first device, and a second device is provided. The first device is associated with a first particular sector of a radio communication cell and the second device is associated with a second particular sector of the radio communication cell. According to one or more embodiments, a directional filter assembly () comprises a multi-port filter circuit () for combining or separating signals in specified pass-bands and an isolated port () having a resistive load (), for absorbing out-of-band signals. The assembly further includes a reflective protection device () configured to protect the resistive load () from being overpowered by out-of-band signal power, based on being configured to reflect or not reflect the out-of-band signals in dependence on the level of out-of-band signal power. In at least one embodiment, the directional filter assembly is configured as a microwave transmission assembly, such as is used for combining signals from two or more base stations, for transmission from a common antennae assembly.

Methods and systems for calibrating transceivers are described. Analog transceiver components create errors, such as gain and offset errors in a receiver or a transmitter portion, which are compensated by adjusting digital signal processing in the computing portion of the transceiver. Errors can be measured in a calibration procedure and determined compensating values stored in a memory device of the transceiver. These values can then be retrieved when the transceiver is initialized for usage during signal processing of signals received by and transmitted by the transceiver.

Methods and systems for estimating Supervisory Audio Tone (SAT) strength during data transfer and for a short time period thereafter. The SAT during this period is regarded as being identical to the strength measured just before the data transfer was started. In an alternative embodiment, a probabilistic algorithm can be used wherein previous measurements are used to predict the SAT strength during and for a period after data transfer. Where the present invention is used in a mobile radio telecommunications system of the type in which analog information is transmitted between at least one base station and a number of mobile stations, a method for supervising the quality of a connection between the base station and a mobile station includes transmitting data between the base station and the mobile station during which a SAT is not transmitted and using pre-data transfer SAT measurement for radio transmission quality supervision during at least a time period of said data transmitting step.

Methods and systems for measuring signal strengths of radio signals in radiocommunication systems are described. In many radiocommunication systems, base stations and/or mobile station take signal strength measurements on various radio channels, e.g., those in neighboring calls, to provide information to the system for channel allocation and handoff decisions. By sorting lists of channels to be measured into frequency order and taking into account a last tuned channel as well as radio specific tuning characteristics, the overall time spent tuning to each channel in the list can be reduced.

Methods and systems allowing for the following two Supervisory Audio Tone-Signalling Tone (SAT-ST) qualifications: (1) when detecting a ST as being on, the signalling tone signal is accepted if the SAT strength value indicates that the SAT is on, in accordance with the IS-54-B standard; and (2) when detecting the ST as being on and a momentary or instantaneous SAT strength value indicates that the SAT is off, the signalling tone signal is not accepted at this stage. However, should the instantaneous SAT strength subsequently be detected as being on while the signalling tone is still on, the signalling tone signal is accepted, which is a deviation from the IS-54-B standard. In one embodiment, the measurements of the ST duration are not started until SAT and ST both on.
