A method for treatment of a headache disorder in a human subject, including selecting at least one treatment area in the nasal cavity of the human subject, said treatment area being selected from a posterior part of the nasal cavity or an anterior part of the nasal cavity, providing a device including a stimulation member arranged for vibration stimulation of the selected treatment area, and at least one expansion member provided with a channel having a plurality of openings arranged for fluid communication with the stimulation member, introducing the stimulation member into a nasal cavity of the human subject, expanding the stimulation member to a volume such that the stimulation member abuts against the tissue to exert a pressure on tissue of the selected treatment area and bringing the stimulation member to vibrate in the nasal cavity to impart vibrations to the selected treatment area, wherein the vibrations are imparted to a posterior part of the nasal cavity, to an anterior part of the nasal cavity, sequentially to a posterior and an anterior part of the nasal cavity; or simultaneously to a posterior and an anterior part of the nasal cavity.

Treatment of headache disorders

A method of stimulating nasal tissues using a system comprises a catheter assembly connected to a fluid flow generator. The catheter assembly comprises a generally oblong inflatable catheter defining at least one catheter volume and a tube part comprising at least one lumen configured to establish fluid flow connection between said fluid flow generator and catheter. Preferably, the catheter assembly comprises at least one vent for releasing fluid or permitting fluid to escape from the generated fluid flow. The method generally comprises the steps of: providing a fluid flow from the fluid flow generator; inflating the catheter to assume a shape suitable for insertion in the nasal cavity; inserting the catheter to a predetermined position in a nasal cavity; adjusting the catheter with the fluid flow regulator to assume a shape suitable for stimulating the nasal tissue; and stimulating the nasal tissue by selecting at least one of a smooth continuous fluid flow, an oscillating fluid flow and a pulsating fluid flow.

Devices, systems and methods for mechanical tissue stimulation

A system for mechanical stimulation of nasal tissues of a patient comprises a catheter assembly connected to a fluid flow generator. The catheter assembly comprises a generally oblong inflatable catheter defining at least one catheter volume and the catheter is configured to assume a shape suitable for insertion into a nasal cavity and to assume a shape suitable for stimulating a nasal tissue. The catheter assembly also comprises a tube part comprising at least one lumen configured to establish fluid flow connection between said fluid flow generator and catheter. Preferably, the catheter assembly comprises at least one vent for releasing fluid or permitting fluid to escape from the generated fluid flow. The fluid flow generator of previous aspects of the invention is configured to generate at least one of a smooth continuous flow, an oscillating flow and a pulsating flow.

A device is provided for vibrational stimulation of body tissue in body cavities which are difficult to access, particularly in the nasal cavity. The device includes an expandable stimulation member, which can be introduced via a body opening into a body cavity. In an expanded state of the device, the stimulation member abuts against the body tissue within the body cavity. To accomplish vibrational stimulation, the stimulation member is brought to vibrate at a frequency of 48-70 Hz within the body cavity. A method is also provided for vibrational stimulation of body tissue in a body cavity, particularly in the nasal cavity of a patient.

Vibration device

A method for stimulating the hypothalamus in a human subject is provided. The method includes the step of imparting vibrations to a posterior part of a nasal cavity of the human subject by a device for stimulation of the hypothalamus, which includes an expandable stimulation member arranged to stimulate hypothalamic activity.

A method of treatment by vibration stimulation is provided. The method includes providing an expandable stimulation member adapted to impart vibrations to body tissue of a human subject; introducing the stimulation member into a body cavity of the human subject; expanding the stimulation member to a volume such that the stimulation member abuts against body tissue within the body cavity; bringing the stimulation member to vibrate such that vibrations are imparted to the body tissue in the body cavity of the human subject according to a vibration pattern, wherein the vibration pattern includes a main periodic element of a first frequency and an excitation stimulus of a second frequency higher than the first frequency.

A device is provided for vibrational stimulation of body tissue in body cavities which are difficult to access, particularly in the nasal cavity. A method of vibration treatment in at least one nasal cavity of a human subject is provided. The method includes the steps of: inserting a first stimulation member in a first nasal cavity; inserting a second stimulation member in a second nasal cavity; securing the first and second stimulation members such that the stimulation members are in fixed positions within the nasal cavities prior to vibration stimulation; arranging each of the first and second stimulation members to abut against tissue within each of the first and second nasal cavities at a first and second pressure; and imparting vibrations to tissue in at least one of the first and second nasal cavities via at least one of the first and second stimulation members.

Double stimulation

A method for treatment of a headache disorder in a human subject is provided. The method includes a) selecting a treatment area in the nasal cavity of the human subject; b) providing a stimulation member arranged for vibration stimulation of the selected treatment area; c) introducing the stimulation member into a nasal cavity of the human subject; d) expanding the stimulation member to exert a pressure on tissue of the selected treatment area; and e) bringing the stimulation member to vibrate in the nasal cavity to impart vibrations to the selected treatment area.

A method for treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in a human subject is provided. A first vibration stimulation member is introduced into a posterior part of a first nasal cavity of the human subject. By means of the first vibration stimulation member, vibrations are imparted to the posterior part of the first nasal cavity at frequency in a range of from 60 to 70 Hz. A second vibration simulation member is arranged between the trapezius muscle and the sternocleidomastoid muscle on a first side of the neck of the human subject; and by means of said second vibration stimulation member, vibrations are imparted to the first side of the neck at a frequency in a range of from 30 to 50 Hz.

ALS treatment

A method for treatment by vibration stimulation of body tissue in a body cavity of a human subject includes providing a stimulation member comprising a dielectric polymer; introducing the stimulation member into a body cavity; expanding the stimulation member to a state such that it abuts the body tissue within the body cavity, and applying a time varying potential to said dielectric polymer to impart vibrations to body tissue in the body cavity.

Electroactive vibration method

A device for detecting rhinitis in a human subject includes an inflatable member that, in a first state, is configured to be introducible into the nasal cavity of the human subject; an expansion member configured to expand the inflatable member to an expanded, second state within the nasal cavity such that the inflatable member abuts against the tissue of the nasal cavity, and a pressure sensing member configured to measure a pressure exerted on the inflatable member by the tissue of the nasal cavity. A system for detecting rhinitis and methods for analyzing tissue response pressure, detecting rhinitis, predicting the efficacy of a planned rhinitis treatment and evaluating the efficacy of a previous rhinitis treatment are provided.
