Electrical connectors for very high speed signals, including signals at or above 112 Gbps. Effectiveness of shielding along the signal paths through the mating electrical connectors may be enhanced through the use of one or more techniques, including enabling two-sided shielding, connections between shield members and between shield members and grounded structures of printed circuit boards to which the connectors are mounted, and selective positioning of lossy material. Such techniques may be simply and reliably implemented in high density connector using one or more techniques. An electrical connector may include core members held by a housing together with leadframe assemblies attached to the core members. The core members may include features that would be difficult to mold in a housing and may include both shields and lossy materials in locations that would be difficult to incorporate in a leadframe assembly.

High speed connector

A direct mate orthogonal connector for a high density of high speed signals. The connector may include right angle leadframe assemblies with signal conductive elements and ground shields held by a leadframe housing. High frequency performance may be achieved with members on the leadframe that transfer force between a connector housing, holding the leadframe assemblies, and a portion of the leadframe housing holding the signal conductive elements and the shields near their mounting ends. Core members may be inserted into the housing and mating ends of the conductive elements of ground shields may be adjacent the core members, enabling electrical and mechanical performance of the mating interface to be defined by the core members. The core members may incorporate insulative and lossy features that may be complex to form as part of the connector housing but may be readily formed as part of a separate core member.

High speed, high density direct mate orthogonal connector

Electrical connectors for very high speed signals, including signals at frequencies at or above 112 GHz, with high density. Such connectors may be formed with fine features molded into portions of the connector housing to support closely spaced signal conductors. The signal conducts may nonetheless be accurately positioned, which leads to uniform impedance and other electrical characteristics that enable high frequency operation through the use of skeletal members that restrain bowing and twisting of housing components that position, directly or indirectly, the signal conductors. The skeletal members may be simply incorporated into the housing components by stamping a metal skeleton from a metal sheet in conjunction with one or more carrier strips. The housing component may be overmolded around the skeleton and then severed from the carrier strips.

High speed, high density connector

A connector () is provided having a plurality of leads generally arranged in columns extending substantially parallel each other in a column direction (C) and being adjacent each other in a row direction (R). At least one first column comprises at least one first pair of single leads (S) substantially parallel each other in a first pair direction (P) to form a first differential pair. In at least a portion of the connector the first pair direction extends at an acute angle (a) to the column direction. Further, an assembly, and a circuit board are provided.

High performance connector

An electrical connector configured for differential pairs with low in-pair skew. The connector may comprise lead frame assemblies, such as insert molded lead frame assemblies, with adjacent conductors configured for reduced skew by distributing skew correction throughout the transmission path through the lead frame assembly. Elongated air gaps are formed in a side of the housing, exposing the longer conductor of each pair. The elongated air gap may span the entire length of the arc of a longer conductor of each pair. The width of this air gap may be different for different pairs in the lead frame assembly and may be selected to cancel or prevent in-pair skew from arising. The width for each pair may be selected to tune the effective dielectric constant of the longer conductor such that its electrical length matches that of the shorter conductor.

Differential pair signal contacts with skew correction

A connector is provided having a plurality of leads generally arranged in columns extending substantially parallel each other in a column direction and being adjacent each other in a row direction. At least one first column includes at least one first pair of signal leads substantially parallel each other in a first pair direction to form a first differential pair. In at least a portion of the connector the first pair direction extends at an acute angle to the column direction. Further, an assembly, and a circuit board are provided.

Connector assembly with low pair cross talk

An electrical connector assembly includes a first electrical connector and a second electrical connector. At least one of the electrical connectors may comprise an insulating housing comprise a plurality of housing portions. The housing portions may support pairs of electric signal contacts, which may be arranged to carry differential signals. The electrical signals contacts may be edge coupled or broadside coupled. The insulating housing may further comprise a plurality of conductive ground shields which may be arranged to electrically shield adjacent pairs of electrical signals contacts. In one implementation, a shield may have walls shaped and positioned to surround a pair of electric signal contacts on three sides. The walls of a shield may extend along the direction of mating.

High speed electrical connector

An electrical connector footprint on a printed circuit board (PCB) can include vias and antipads surrounding those vias. While conventional antipads surrounding vias are large in order to improve impedance of the PCB, the presence of the antipads can compromise the integrity of the ground plane and can permit cross talk to arise between differential pairs on different layers in the PCB. Antipads can be constructed and arranged so as to limit cross talk between layers in a PCB, while also maximizing impedance.

Connector footprints in printed circuit board (PCB)

An electrical connector assembly includes a first electrical connector and a second electrical connector. Each electrical connector can include a plurality of electrical ground shields that at least partially surround respective differential signal pairs. The electrical connectors can be constructed so as to reduce cross-talk between adjacent signal pairs. For example, the first electrical connector can include a connector housing defining an end that is configured to be mounted to a substrate. The ground shields can define a body that extends through the connector housing, such that the ground shields extend through the end so as to be disposed between the end and the substrate when the connector is mounted to the substrate.

A connector for connection between a circuit board and a further electronic component is disclosed. The connector includes an insulating housing having a board slot open towards a mating direction for accommodating the circuit board, and a plurality of terminals. The terminals have a rear portion, an intermediate portion and a tip portion, the intermediate portion including a contact portion for contacting a surface portion of the circuit board when accommodated in the board slot. The housing includes a window such that for a number of adjacent terminals housing material is absent between the intermediate portions. A shield member may be arranged in between the rear portions of the terminals. Improved circuit boards are also disclosed.

High speed edge card connector

In one embodiment, an electrical connector includes a plurality of leadframe assembly assemblies, each having a leadframe housing and a plurality of electrical contacts carried by the leadframe housing. At least a pair of adjacent leadframe assemblies includes respective first and second conductive member portions of a conductive bar that reduces cross talk. The first and second portions are each seated in their respective leadframe housings and face each other such that the electrical connector is devoid of electrical contacts between the first and second portions.
