A compact assembly for accurately measuring the air flow in an air intake duct of an internal combustion engine that is easy to manufacture and maintain. The assembly includes a housing with an inlet opening, an outlet opening, a channel with an inner wall defining a predetermined cross-sectional area and a closure member that is movably mounted in the channel between a closed and opened position. A first annular chamber is situated upstream from the closure member and a second annular chamber is placed downstream of the closure member. Each chamber has an inner chamber wall with a number of apertures that are in fluid communication with the channel. A first pressure sensor is connected to the first chamber for measuring a pressure, and a second pressure sensor is connected to the first chamber and the second chamber for measuring a difference in pressure.

Pressure sensor system for charge air load control

An improved method for performing a conditioning process for a particulate filter, preferably adapted for an aftertreatment system arranged downstream of an internal combustion engine. The proposed method provides for conditioning of a filter under controlled conditions such that the filter may reach a desired operation state in a more efficient and faster manner. Further, the proposed method also advantageously provides for maintaining the desired operation state, in which the filtration capacity may be at a usable level.

Preconditioning method for a particulate filter

A method for controlling a filtering efficiency of a filter including a filtering area between an inflow area and an outflow area. Determining a present exhaust mass flow into the filter. Determining a pressure drop across the filter from the inflow area and the outflow area of the filter. Normalizing the measured pressure drop to provide a normalized pressure drop according to a predetermined normalization pressure level at a predetermined temperature for a model filter. Comparing the normalized pressure drop to a pressure drop model including a relation between the pressure drop across a filter and exhaust mass flow to the filter. Determining a pressure deviation between the normalized pressure drop and a pressure drop value calculated based on the pressure drop model and the present exhaust gas flow. Controlling the pressure drop across the filter for reducing the pressure deviation.

Method for controlling filtering efficiency of a filter for an exhaust aftertreatment system

A method for generating a camshaft signature for camshaft positioning calibration for a camshaft included in a combustion engine. The camshaft is adapted to cause a valve to open and close an opening to a cylinder volume of the combustion engine. The combustion engine further includes an intake surge tank adapted for receiving air from the outside environment. The intake surge tank is in fluid connection with the cylinder volume of the combustion engine for providing air for mixing with fuel injected into the cylinder.

Method and system for camshaft positioning calibration

The disclosure relates to an exhaust gas aftertreatment device for purification of exhaust gas emissions. The exhaust gas aftertreatment device is arranged in an exhaust gas passage subsequently of an internal combustion engine and includes an encapsulating portion, a first catalytic substrate and a second catalytic substrate. The second catalytic substrate may be of SCR type. The exhaust gas aftertreatment device includes a reductant injecting device, a pipe and an obstructing portion, where the reductant injecting device is arranged such that reductant is injectable within the pipe and the exhaust gas flow through the pipe can be controlled by the obstructing portion.

Pressure differentiated exhaust aftertreatment device

A catalytic converter for an internal combustion engine includes a tubular member which defines a volume within which a catalytic converter substrate is located, the volume communicates with an inlet portion for receiving exhaust gas emissions and with a first outlet portion for discharging emissions after catalytic conversion. The catalytic converter may also include a pipe member within the tubular member, which connects the inlet portion with the volume and guides emissions from the inlet portion in a first direction. The pipe member opens into a deflector member which deflects emissions into the volume in a second direction, and the catalytic converter includes a second outlet portion connected to the deflector member and a valve to control gas flow through the second outlet portion to guide emissions away from the pipe member and out of the catalytic converter prior to reaching the catalytic converter substrate when the valve is open.

Catalytic converter and exhaust-gas aftertreatment arrangement

A compact exhaust gas aftertreatment device for an internal combustion engine comprises a catalytic converter, wherein the catalytic converter comprises an encapsulating member, a pipe member, an exhaust gas guiding means and two catalytic converter substrates. The exhaust gas aftertreatment device provides very good exhaust gas mixing properties. Additionally, the exhaust gas guiding means is configured to withstand thermal stress due to exposure to hot exhaust gas emissions.

Exhaust gas aftertreatment device

An exhaust-gas aftertreatment device for an internal combustion engine includes a catalytic converter having a tubular member which defines a volume housing a catalytic converter substrate. The volume housing the catalytic converter substrate communicates with an inlet portion for receiving exhaust gas from the engine and with an outlet portion for discharging the exhaust gas after catalytic conversion thereof in the volume. The device further has a pipe member within the tubular member which connects the inlet portion with the volume in the tubular member and guides the exhaust gas from the inlet portion in a first direction of flow. The pipe member opens downstream into a deflector which deflects the exhaust gas into the volume of the tubular member in a second direction of flow other than the first direction of flow. Unburned liquid fuel contained in the exhaust gas is deposited on the deflector for later evaporation.

Exhaust-gas aftertreatment device

A method of adapting the ignition timing in an internal combustion engine to the crankshaft position depending on variations in engine rpm, load and overlap between the inlet and exhaust valves. The ratio between combusted and non-combusted gas in cylinders is computed, and this ratio is utilized, in such a way that the greater the proportion of combusted gas there is, the earlier the ignition will be initiated. The invention also relates to an engine with a control unit and means for computing said ratio and controlling the ignition timing.

Method of controlling the ignition in an internal combustion engine and engine with means for carrying out the method

An intake system for internal combustion engines with multiple cylinders (10). The intake system includes a first distribution chamber (13), one separate inlet pipe (15a, 15b) for each engine cylinder, which inlet pipes extend between the first distribution chamber (13) and inlet valve/valves of the corresponding cylinders, and at least one second distribution chamber (16, 16a, 16b). This is connectable to each inlet pipe (15a, 15b) between said first chamber and the inlet valve via one corresponding passage, which can be opened by means of an operable throttle valve (19). Each second distribution chamber (16, 16a, 16b) is connected to the first distribution chamber (13) via at least one resonance pipe (14), the inlet of which to the second distribution chamber is openable by means of an additional throttle valve (17).

Intake system for multiple cylinder combustion engines

A flow control valve including a movable part and a housing for accommodating the movable part may be produced by molding the components in sequential steps. Preferably, the housing is molded in a first step and the movable part is molded in an at least partially closed position in a second step in the same mold. This method enables the surface of the housing to serve as at least a portion of the mold for forming a substantially sealing portion of the movable part such that a very close tolerance between these components is achieved. The movable part is preferably a butterfly disc and the housing is preferably a butterfly valve housing.

A device at an intake system for internal combustion engines incorporating a return conduit (17) for exhaust gases between exhaust side and intake side, in said return conduit a valve (18) controlled by the engine speed, a connection flange (16) between engine block (10) and intake manifolds (14), said connection flange having through openings (14') for intake air to the cylinders (1-6), and an exhaust channel (17') arranged in the connection flange along the edge thereof, means for connecting the exhaust channel via said valve (18) to the engine exhaust side, said exhaust channel having branch conduits (20), communicating with the different through openings (14').
