An immersion device is provided for molten metal, as well as a method for making steel. The immersion device allows a trouble free operation. The immersion device includes a measuring head, a carrier for the measuring head, and a lance detachably connected to the carrier, preferably by a detachable tubular connecting element. A gas path runs from the lance to the detachable tubular connecting element. A gas tight connection is provided between a connecting surface of the lance and the detachable tubular connecting element. The tubular connecting element has wipers in the form of fins, which wipe the connecting surface of the lance during attaching and/or detaching the tubular connecting element and the lance.

Immersion device for molten metal and steelmaking method

A sensor arrangement for melted materials includes an upper part and a detachable lower part. A tube extends coaxial to a longitudinal axis of the lower part, is closed on its end facing away from the upper part, and is open on the other end. The tube is arranged on an immersion end of the lower part facing away from the upper part. A guide tube, extending coaxial to a longitudinal axis of the upper part and being open on both ends, is arranged in a guide sleeve. A pressure acting in the direction of the lower part is applied to the guide tube by an elastic body and the guide tube touches against the lower part. One opening of the guide tube and the open end of the tube of the lower part are arranged adjacent to each other and coaxial to the longitudinal axis of the lower part.

A measuring device is provided for measurement of parameters, in particular for measuring the temperature, in molten masses, in particular in molten metal or molten cryolite masses having a melting point above 500&#xb0; C. The measuring device has an optical fiber for receiving radiation from the molten mass and a cable reel having an external circumference for winding up the optical fiber and an internal space surrounded by the external circumference. A distributor and a mode filter for the optical fiber are arranged in the internal space.

Blister lights are used for signaling and/or marking purposes. The blister lights include a housing which is embedded in a traffic area, e.g. a street, an airport runway for taking off and for landing, or the like. It further includes a housing cover by which means the housing embedded in the traffic area can be closed on its upper side, the cover being detachably connected to the housing and including at least one light outlet. It additionally includes an illuminating element which is arranged in the housing and by which the light can radiate through the light outlet of the housing cover. In order to enable the illuminating element to have higher current densities and thus to enable the blister lights to have a higher light output capacity, a thermoconducting bridge is formed between illuminating element and the housing cover. By this, the thermal energy produced by the illuminating element can be conducted to the housing cover From these, the thermal energy is guided to the traffic area via the housing which is embedded therein.

A method is provided for calibrating measurement signals obtained with optical fibers, wherein a reference material having a known reference temperature is arranged at one end of an optical fiber, the reference material is heated up to at least its reference temperature, the signal received by the fiber when the reference temperature is reached is supplied as a calibration signal to a measurement device and is compared there with the theoretical value for the reference temperature, and the difference is used for calibration. In addition, a corresponding device is provided for using the above method for calibration or determination of the attenuation of an optical fiber.
