A material for binding to a cell culturing protein is disclosed. The material contains a bulk-modified elastomer comprising a plurality of fatty acid moieties covalently bound to the elastomer bulk, wherein the carboxylic acid groups of said moieties are available to provide said binding. Also disclosed are a fluidic device module, a cell culturing scaffold, a fluidic device, the method of synthesizing such a material and a drug testing method. With such a material, a (monolithic) fluidic device module may be manufactured in as few as a single step injection molding process.

A luminescent converter, a phosphor-enhanced light source and a luminaire are provided. The luminescent convertercomprises a first organic luminescent material, a second organic luminescent materialand a third inorganic luminescent material. The first organic luminescent material, the second organic luminescent materialand the inorganic luminescent materialabsorb a portion of light emitted by the light source and/or absorbs a portion of light emitted by at least one of the other luminescent materials. The first organic luminescent materialconverts at least a part of the absorbed light into light of a first color distribution. The invention provides a process for the production of a (particulate) luminescent material comprising particles, especially substantially spherical particles, having a porous inorganic material core with pores, especially macro pores, which are at least partly filled with a polymeric material with luminescent quantum dots embedded therein, wherein the process comprises (i) impregnating the particles of a particulate porous inorganic material with pores with a first liquid ('ink') comprising the luminescent quantum dots and a curable or polymerizable precursor of the polymeric material, to provide pores that are at least partly filled with said luminescent quantum dots and curable or polymerizable precursor; and (ii) curing or polymerizing the curable or polymerizable precursor within pores of the porous material, as well as a product obtainable thereby.

A wavelength converting element () comprising a polymeric carrier material comprising a first wavelength converting material adapted to convert light of a first wavelength to light of a second wavelength, wherein the oxygen diffusion coefficient (D) of the polymeric carrier material is 8&#xd7;10cm/s or less at 25&#xb0; C. A prolonged lifetime of the wavelength converting material is achieved by selecting a polymeric carrier material with an oxygen diffusion coefficient (D) at 8&#xd7;10cm/s or less at 25&#xb0; C.

Wavelength converting element

The invention relates to a lighting apparatus comprising a conversion material () for converting primary light () into secondary light (), wherein the conversion material () comprises converting photolummescent material (), which degrades to non-converting photolummescent material over time when the conversion material () is illuminated by the primary light (). The conversion material () is adapted such that, when the conversion material () is illuminated by the primary light (), the relative decrease in concentration of the converting photolummescent material () within the conversion material () is larger than the relative decrease in intensity of the secondary light (). This allows the lighting apparatus to provide an only slightly reduced absorbance of the primary light, even if a large part of the photolummescent material has been bleached, and thus a longer lifetime, with the same or a slightly reduced intensity of the secondary light.

A method for manufacturing a wavelength converting element () the method comprising providing () a polymeric carrier material () having a first wavelength converting material () dispersed or molecular dissolved therein; the first wavelength converting material () is adapted to convert light of a first wavelength to light of a second wavelength, deforming () the polymeric carrier material at a first temperature at or above the glass transition temperature thereof such that at least part of the polymeric carrier material () is crystallized; and annealing () the polymeric carrier material() at a second temperature below the melting temperature thereof. Treatment of a polymeric material() according to the invention improves the stability and lifetime of a wavelength converting material () comprised in a such a treated polymeric material. A polymeric material () treated according to the invention may comprise polymeric molecules having a degree of crystalline being 10% by volume or more.

The invention relates to a light emitting device comprising a light emitting element () and a light guide () arranged on a textile substrate (). The light guide has a back surface () facing the textile substrate, a front surface () facing away from the substrate, and a light receiving surface (). The light emitting element () is arranged such that at least part of the light emitted by the light emitting element () is coupled into the light guide () through the light receiving surface (), and is subject to total internal reflection in the light guide (). Furthermore, the light guide () is arranged such that at least part of the light coupled into the light guide () exits the light guide () through the front surface () and/or the back surface (). By arranging a light guide in conjunction with a light emitting element, the emitted light is distributed within the light guide and exits the light guide from an area that is larger than that of the light emitting element. Hence, a larger portion of the textile substrate can be made luminous without the need for using a more dense pattern of light emitting elements.
