A decoder for decoding a frame to reconstruct a signal portion of a signal is provided. The signal portion is encoded within the frame, wherein the frame includes a bitstream payload and two or more redundancy bits, wherein the bitstream payload includes a plurality of payload bits, wherein each of the payload bits exhibits a position within the bitstream payload. The decoder includes a channel decoding module, being configured to detect, depending on the two or more redundancy bits, whether the bitstream payload includes one or more corrupted bits being one or more of the payload bits that are distorted or that are likely to be distorted. Moreover, the decoder includes a source decoding module.

A channel encoder for encoding a frame includes a multi-mode redundancy encoder for redundancy encoding the frame in accordance with a certain coding mode from a set of different coding modes, wherein the coding modes are different from each other with respect to an amount of redundancy added to the frame, wherein the multi-mode redundancy encoder is configured to output a coded frame including at least one code word; and a colorator for applying a coloration sequence to the at least one code word; wherein the coloration sequence is such that at least one bit of the code word is changed by the application of the at least one of coloration sequence, wherein the specific coloration sequence is selected in accordance with the certain coding mode.

A downmixer for downmixing at least two channels of a multichannel signal having the two or more channels includes: a processor for calculating a partial downmix signal from the at least two channels; a complementary signal calculator for calculating a complementary signal from the multichannel signal, the complementary signal being different from the partial downmix signal; and an adder for adding the partial downmix signal and the complementary signal to obtain a downmix signal of the multichannel signal.
