In accordance with the invention, there is provided a telecommunication jack that is free of cross-over sections, has cross-talk characteristics that approach Category 6 levels, and avoids the use of spring contact wires supported in a cantilevered fashion. This is achieved in a preferred implementation by spring terminal contact wires that are arch shaped. Each spring wire has a first leg having an end, a second leg having an end and an apex portion located between the first and second legs where the ends of the legs are supported on a wire board and each end makes electrical contact with separate conductive pads. When utilized in an operating circuit, one end and leg of a spring terminal contact wire is coupled to a conductive pad on the wire board that is in a current carrying signal path, and the other end and leg of that spring terminal contact wire is coupled to a different conductive pad on the wire board adapted for connection to a cross-talk compensating component. In accordance with the invention, both pads of the wire board are connected to a common spring terminal contact wire, although only one pad and one leg of the arch shaped spring wire may be in the current carrying signal path. The legs of the arch shaped spring terminal contact wires can be of equal or unequal length, the arch can be semi-circular, triangular or the like, and the conductive pads on the wire board of adjacent spring wire terminals can be either aligned or staggered in distance from the edge of the wire board.

High frequency telecommunication connector

A universal modular electrical connector for mounting on either a horizontally or vertically oriented printed wiring board or other circuit components; comprising a jack housing and a spring block. The spring block has at least one array of conductors extending therethrough from a nose end where the conductors extend in cantilever fashion from the block at an angle to form a planar array of spring contacts, to a connection end where the conductors extend from the block for connection to circuit a component or components. The spring block may have an additional second array of conductors extending therethrough in similar fashion to the first array and which is vertically spaced from the first array. At the connection end, each array of conductors is contained within its respective slots in the spring block. The slots are configured with a slanted surface which permits bending of the conductors of the array from, for example, a horizontal position to a vertical position. Thus, the same spring block can be easily configured for application or mounting to a variety of circuit component locations.

Universally configurable modular connector

A communication plug that generates crosstalk that complements the compensating crosstalk in a legacy jack or connector. The communication plug includes a dielectric carrier on which a plurality of electrical conductors are disposed. Each conductor is configured to wrap around a first end of the carrier thereby forming a series of adjacent inductive loops. Complementary crosstalk is generated between the conductors as a result of the fields created from current flow through the inductive loops and can be fixed to a desired level by modifying certain engineerable parameters. The inductive loops are positioned in the nose or front region of the plug where the conductors engage the jack spring wires or terminals thus minimizing the propagation delay between the crosstalk signals generated in the plug and the crosstalk signals generated in the jack or connector.

In a preferred embodiment, a device which is capable of being mounted in an opening in a panel, and which is adapted to hold a component, comprises two parallel side portions each being made of a plastic material, each side portion including a depending portion at each end thereof. Each of two moveable arms extends between corresponding ends of said side portions and is hingedly connected thereto. Each moveable arm includes two detents projecting from an outer surface of the arm such that when forces are applied to free end portions of the arms to move the free end portions toward each other, the device is capable of being inserted into an opening in a panel until a face of the panel abuts the depending portions of the side portions whereupon the application of forces is discontinued to allow the arms to move outwardly and cause the detents of each arm to snap-lock into engagement with an opposite side of the panel. Furthermore, the present invention additionally includes means which allows the patch panel to adequately support the component in a position which provides ready frontal access to all wiring associated with any single component.
