A gaming device including a first and second indicator plate which are adjacent to each other and on the same axis where the second plate overlaps at least a portion of the first plate and the first and second plates are in different planes. In one embodiment, the first plate includes at least one symbol where one or more awards are associated with the symbol. The second plate is composed at least in part of a substantially transparent material, which enables a player to see through at least a portion of the second plate to view one or more symbols on the first plate. The second plate also includes a plurality of sections, which indicate one or more symbols on the first plate. In one embodiment, the second plate includes at least one transparent section and at least one non-transparent section.

Gaming device including movable symbol indicator plates

A gaming machine has a display panel with permanent indicia and optionally also adapted for display of transient indicia which act with the permanent indicia as part of the gaming played on the machine. At least a portion of the permanent indicia may comprise an ink or other iridescent coating that glows in the presence of activating light, typically ultraviolet radiation. A source of the activating light is positioned to irradiate the permanent indicia portions. A controller is typically present for activating the activating light source in a predetermined manner which correlates with one or more events taking place in the particular game being played on the machine.

In one embodiment, the gaming device includes an electromechanical secondary display device that is operable to rotate about an axis. Each individual symbol display member is adapted to display at least one symbol or award. In operation, after determining the symbol, award or outcome displayed by each of the individual symbol display members, the electromechanical secondary display device rotates about an axis to indicate one of the individual symbol display members. In one embodiment, the gaming device enables a player to select one or more of the sections on the second plate to indicate a symbol or symbols on the first plate.

The present invention relates to a gaming device having a refractive light display. The gaming device includes a housing, a refractive light display including at least one refractive surface, and a processor for controlling the refractive light display to indicate a game function. Light is directed into the refractive light display and directed from the refractive surfaces to a player. In one embodiment, the refractive light display and an award display are adjacent to each other on a gaming device and co-act to indicate a symbol on the award display in a game. In another embodiment, the refractive light display includes at least one refractive surface that functions as a payline where the payline refracts light and indicates one or more symbols on the reels. In a further embodiment, a reflective layer is formed on one or more of the refractive surfaces to illuminate specific sections in a game.
