An apparatus is disclosed as including a first material volume with at least a hardened portion and a second material volume that includes at least two layers. The first material volume is composed of at least a hardenable alloy of steel. The at least two layers is located adjacent to a first surface comprising the hardened portion of the first material volume. The at least two layers includes a first layer composed of at least a ductile low-carbon alloy of steel and a second layer composed of at least a cobalt-based hardfacing over the first layer. The apparatus is applicable in preparing shear ram blocks and shear ram blades to provide a hardened blade edge with an adjacent hardfacing surface.

Hardfaced metal surface and method of manufacture

A shear ram system includes an upper block positioned to transition from a first location outside a bore to a second location within the bore, the upper block including a blade control arm having a first contact surface. The shear ram system includes a lower block positioned to transition from the first location outside the bore to the second location within the bore, the lower block including a second contact surface proximate the first contact surface. The shear ram system includes a progressive gap between the first contact surface and the second contact surface larger at a first end than at a second end such that a first gap distance at the first end is greater than a second gap distance the second end.

Wireline blind shear ram

A seal for a blind shear ram is configured to extend between a first carrier and a second carrier of the blind shear ram. The seal includes a curved portion and an elastic layer extending through the curved portion. The elastic layer is configured to contact at least one of the first carrier and the second carrier to seal a wellbore when the first carrier and the second carrier are in a closed position. The elastic layer has a first elasticity. The seal also includes an anti-extrusion structure coupled to the elastic layer. The anti-extrusion structure extends through the curved portion. The anti-extrusion structure has a second elasticity less than the first elasticity. The anti-extrusion structure defines a plurality of slits to facilitate the anti-extrusion structure extending through the curved portion.

Blowout prevention system including blind shear ram

A method for use in well drilling, development, completion, and production, including supplying hydraulic pressure to a tubing spider having at least one actuating component, generating position data from a position sensor based on the position of the actuating component, generating pressure data from a pressure sensor based on the pressure supplied to the spider, and automatically handling tubing with the spider by actuating the actuating component by adjusting pressure supplied to the spider based on the position data, the pressure data, and a prescribed control algorithm. The method may be implemented as part of a system including a tubing spider having at least one actuating component, sensors detecting hydraulic pressure supplied to the spider and the position of the actuating component, and a programmable logic controller capable of generating spider control data to control the spider based on data from the sensors and a prescribed control algorithm.

Systems and methods for automatically operating an electro-hydraulic spider

A seal for a blind shear ram is configured to extend between a first carrier and a second carrier of the blind shear ram. The seal includes an outer layer configured to contact at least one of the first carrier and the second carrier to seal a wellbore when the blind shear ram is in a closed position. The outer layer has a first stiffness. The seal also includes an inner layer spaced from the outer layer. The inner layer has a second stiffness. The seal further includes an anti-extrusion structure extending between the inner layer and the outer layer. The anti-extrusion structure has a third stiffness greater than the first stiffness and the second stiffness. The outer layer covers the anti-extrusion structure.

A diverter for redirecting drilling fluid in oilfield applications includes a support housing and a diverter body disposed therein. A lateral opening defined in the diverter body permits fluid communication between an interior passage of the diverter body and a lateral now outlet defined by the support housing. A pair of flow-line seals disposed radially between the support housing and the diverter body includes a flow-line seal disposed on axially upper and lower sides of the lateral flow outlet. The flow-line seals include a pair of substantially rigid support rings and first and second sealing bodies adhered thereto. The first sealing body is affixed to an inner diameter wall of the first and second support rings and extends to axially upper and lower walls of the support rings. The second sealing body is bonded axially between the support rings.

Diverter flow line insert packer seal

A mechanism to reduce load of a hydraulic cylinder having a body, a stem movable within the body, and a piston rod connected to the stem. The mechanism includes a mechanism body attached to the body and defining a recess, and a retainer attached to the mechanism adjacent the opening of the recess so that the retainer substantially fills the opening of the recess, and having an aperture that receives an end of the piston rod. The mechanism further includes a cap attached to the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder within the recess, the cap having a diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture in the retainer, and a spring connected to the cap at a first end and to the retainer at a second end so that as the piston rod moves relative to the failsafe mechanism body, to reduce load transfer between the piston rod and the cylinder body.

Failsafe system and method for reducing load in a hydraulic cylinder

A system for aligning an auxiliary line connection in a termination assembly of a marine riser assembly includes a terminal block secured to an outer diameter of a termination ring. The terminal block has a piston housing that extends through a sidewall of the termination ring. A ring adapter has an outer diameter sized to engage an inner diameter of the termination ring when a shoulder of the ring adapter is landed on a load shoulder of the termination ring. A moveable floating ring assembly is retained within the piston pocket of the ring adapter. A piston housed within piston housing is moveable between a retracted position where an outer end of the piston is spaced apart from the floating ring assembly, and an extended position for forming a sealed auxiliary path from the terminal block to the ring adapter.

System and method of alignment for hydraulic coupling

A cap is lowered onto and secured to a subsea member with an external flange, effecting a seal between the external flange and cap. The cap includes a tubular outer body defining a cavity, and a tubular inner body defining a bore, wherein the lower end of the inner body resides within the cavity. The cap also includes a lower engaging member coupled to the outer body that is radially movable between an inward state and an outward state and configured to alternately engage and disengage at least one of a backside of the external flange. Finally, the cap includes an upper engaging member coupled to the outer body and being radially movable independently of the lower engaging member between an inward state and an outward state and configured to engage and disengage the inner body.

Made-up flange locking cap

A connector is lowered onto and secured to a subsea member, effecting a seal between subsea member and the connector. The connector includes an outer body defining a cavity, and an inner body defining a bore, wherein the lower end of the inner body resides within the cavity. The connector also includes an engaging member coupled to the outer body and adapted to engage the subsea device, the engaging member radially movable between a disengaged position and an engaged position. The connector includes a seal carried by the inner body and adapted to form a seal between the bore and the subsea device. Finally, the connector includes a pre-loading member coupled to the outer body, operable to urge the inner body and seal against the subsea device to exert a pre-loading force on the seal. A differential pressure between the bore and a subsea environment energizes the seal.
