A universal, self-contained, self-powered, compact, external vacuum source and cytology or cytology and histology collection, storage, preservation and transport system device may be configured to couple to any suitable generic biopsy or interventional device. Embodiments may comprise structures and functionality for the addition of such a portable, compact, self-contained, self-powered, universal vacuum and cytology/histology collection module to biopsy or interventional devices. Embodiments may be portable, disposable or reusable and may be electrically, mechanically and/or manually powered and operated. Embodiments may additionally provide structures and functionality for use with other vacuum and/or cytology or histology collection systems to which this system may itself be attached.

Devices and methods for portable, adjunctive vacuum source and cytology/histology collection systems for biopsy devices

A platform device for material excision or removal from vascular structures for either handheld or stereotactic table use may comprise a work element or elements configured to selectively open and close at least one articulable beak or scoopula configured to penetrate and remove intra-vascular materials or obstructions, or follow a central lumen of another device or over a wire in a longitudinal direction. Flush and vacuum tissue transport mechanisms may be incorporated. A single tube or an inner sheath and an outer sheath which may be co-axially disposed relative to a work element may be configured to actuate a beak or beaks or scoopulas and provisions for simultaneous beak or scoopula closing under rotation may be incorporated.

Excisional devices and methods

A platform device for material excision or removal from vascular structures for either handheld or stereotactic table or robotics platform use may comprise a work element or elements configured to selectively open and close at least one articulable beak or scoopula configured to penetrate and remove intra-vascular materials or obstructions or follow a central lumen of another device or over a wire in a longitudinal direction. Flush and vacuum tissue transport mechanisms may be incorporated as well as single or multiple arrays of image guidance elements, directional elements, ablation elements and other interventional assistance elements. A single tube or an inner sheath and an outer sheath which may be co-axially disposed relative to a work element may be configured to actuate a beak or beaks or scoopulas and provisions for simultaneous or differential beak or scoopula closing under their differential rotation may be incorporated.

An excisional biopsy and delivery device may comprise one or more rotating, penetrating and cutting rod elements. The rod elements may be configured to advance from a stored and confined first position and rotate about an axis, while being simultaneously revolved about a central axis. The rod elements may then assume a second released and expanded configuration that is operative to cut around and surround target tissue. In this manner, the rod elements are operative to move through the surrounding tissue to create a volume of revolution and to sever and capture the target tissue contained within the volume of revolution from the surrounding tissue. The severed and captured volume of revolution containing the target issue may then be removed.

Automated, selectable, soft tissue excision biopsy devices and methods

A device may comprise a work element, an outer tube co-axially disposed around a portion of the work element and a collar assembly. The work element may be configured to rotate and define proximal and distal ends, and may comprise a body portion, one or more articulable beak(s) configured to cut tissue, and a beak actuation portion. The collar assembly may be coupled to the work element away from the articulable beak(s), and may comprise a distal collar element coupled to the body portion, a middle collar element coupled to the outer tube and a proximal collar element coupled to the beak actuation portion. The distal collar element may comprise a first peripheral surface that extends around the distal collar element and that faces the proximal end and the middle collar element may comprise a second peripheral surface that that extends around the middle collar element, faces the distal end and at least partially contacts the first peripheral surface. The first and second peripheral surfaces each may comprise a smooth undulating surface that comprises a plurality of peaks and valleys. The distal, middle and proximal collar elements may be configured to control opening, closing, extending and retracting the articulable beak(s) by rotating in synchronicity, rotating differentially and/or moving toward the distal or proximal ends.

Soft and hard tissue excisional devices and methods

A device for soft tissue biopsy or excision for either handheld or stereotactic table use may comprise a work element configured to selectively open and close at least one articulable beak configured to penetrate tissue, or follow a central lumen of another device or over a wire in a longitudinal direction. Flush and vacuum tissue transport mechanisms may be incorporated. A single tube or an inner sheath and an outer sheath which may be co-axially disposed relative to a work element may be configured to actuate a beak or beaks and provisions for simultaneous beak closing under rotation may be incorporated.

Soft tissue biopsy or excisional devices and methods

An excisional device for either handheld or stereotactic table use may comprise an outer sheath that may comprise a distal trough shape configured to penetrate and/or cut tissue independently or in concert with work element(s). The articulable work element(s) may comprise articulable beak(s) and may be configured to translate and/or rotate at a first rate and to cut tissue in a direction implied by placement of the trough shaped outer sheath. A first helical element or equivalent assembly may be configured to transport tissue cut by the work element(s) and/or trough, may be co-axially disposed relative to the work element(s) and may be operative to rotate at a second rotation rate that is different than the first rate. A proximal sheath may be co-axially disposed relative to the work element(s) and the first helical element, and may be configured to rotate and actuate the work element(s).

Soft tissue coring biopsy devices and methods

Devices and methods for portable, adjunctive vacuum source and cytology/histology collection systems for biopsy

A device for intra-vascular embolic-thrombolic protection, as well as embolectomy/thrombectomy and atherectomy interventional procedures and methods. At least a portion of the working end of the device may be formed monolithically from a single hypodermic tube, or may be formed of monolithic inner and outer tubes with fixed or movable guide wire elements and imaging modalities. The device may comprise structures enabling coring, expansion within a vascular structure and vascular wall shaving, as well as filtration, stabilization and capturing of thrombotic or embolitic material during an intervention procedure.

Thrombo-embolic protection and embolectomy/thrombectomy devices and methods

Minimally invasive, multi-functional robotic surgical tool devices for use as lavaging, material aspiration or delivery surgical forceps, scissors or clamp or other device, consisting of a monolithic work element and open central lumen with various functional tips. Such devices may in use follow a central lumen of another device or over a wire in a longitudinal direction upon introduction to a body. Flush and vacuum transport mechanisms, imaging mechanisms or energy source mechanisms may be incorporated. Inner and outer sheaths which may be co-axially disposed relative to a work element may be configured to actuate a beak or beaks and provisions for simultaneous beak closing under rotation may be incorporated.

Advanced minimally invasive multi-functional robotic surgical devices and methods

A device comprises an outer tube defining a longitudinal axis and comprising an aperture near a distal end thereof; a cutting element disposed within the outer tube and configured for rotation and movement across the aperture along the longitudinal axis, the cutting element comprising an engagement feature at a distal end thereof; and a distal tip comprising a tapered distal end and a proximal end that comprises a mating feature. The cutting element may be configured to rotate and cut tissue as it moves along the longitudinal axis across the aperture until the engagement feature at least partially engages the mating feature of the proximal end of the distal tip and entrains the distal tip in oscillation along the longitudinal axis and/or rotation.
