Crosslink-forming monomers, comprising reverse-acrylate groups, and crosslinked polymer networks formed by the polymerization of monomers that comprise said reverse-acrylate crosslink-forming monomers. Crosslink-forming monomers, comprising reverse-acrylate groups, comprising an alkyl, an aryl, an alkoxyl, and an alkylamino group bridging one or more reverse-acrylate groups. Crosslink-forming monomers, comprising reverse-acrylate groups, comprising an alkyl, an aryl, an alkoxyl, and an alkylamino ester groups. Crosslink-forming monomers, comprising reverse-acrylate groups, comprising alkyl groups where the group is selected from the group consisting of a methyl, an ethyl, a propyl, an n-butyl and a t-butyl. Reverse-acrylate crosslink-forming monomers comprise a chemical structure where the two or more polymerizable carbon-carbon double bonds are connected by a crosslinking group on the opposite side of the hydrolysable ester groups relative to normal crosslinking acrylate monomers. The crosslink-forming monomers herein form crosslinked polymer networks that do not lose their crosslinking upon hydrolysis of the ester linkages.

Hydrolysis-tolerant crosslinked polymers from reverse-acrylate multifunctional monomers

A polymer, optionally made from renewable sources, comprising a specific chemical structure that is a result of the polymerization of &#x3b1;-hydroxycarbonyl compounds (alpha-hydroxycarbonyl compounds), particularly &#x3b1;-hydroxyaldehydes (alpha-hydroxyaldehydes) and &#x3b1;-hydroxyketones (alpha-hydroxyketones), or glycolaldehyde. A method of polymerization, the method comprising the step of reacting trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate with the cyclic dimer of one or more &#x3b1;-hydroxycarbonyl compounds. A method of making said polymer, the method comprising dehydrating a cyclic dimer of one or more &#x3b1;-hydroxycarbonyl compounds. An end-capped polymer made from one or more &#x3b1;-hydroxycarbonyl compounds and terminal end-cap groups.

Renewable polymer and method of making

A method of extracting fullerenes from a carbon matrix in which they are produced. The method is applicable to both fullerenes that exhibit greater than 0.1 mg/ml solubility in toluene and to fullerenes that are essentially insoluble in toluene, i.e., those exhibiting less than or equal to 0.1 mg/ml solubility. The method disclosed herein extracts more of the soluble fullerenes from the carbon matrix than extraction conducted by solely contacting with solvent. A method is also provided for creating salts of the extracted fullerenes.
