Compositions and methods of using of such compositions to, for example, inhibit shale are provided. In one embodiment, the methods include introducing an additive including a cationic clay stabilizer and an anionic clay stabilizer into a treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into a wellbore penetrating at least a portion of a subterranean formation. In some embodiments, the methods include introducing an additive including a cationic shale inhibitor and an anionic shale inhibitor into a treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into a wellbore penetrating at least a portion of a subterranean formation.

Cationic and anionic shale inhibitors and clay stabilizers

Compositions and methods for use in fracturing treatments using friction reducing additives that include nanoparticles are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include: providing a treatment fluid that includes an aqueous base fluid and a friction reducing additive, the friction reducing additive including at least one polymer and a plurality of nanoparticles; and introducing the treatment fluid into a portion of a subterranean formation at or above a pressure sufficient to create or enhance at least one fracture in the subterranean formation.

Friction reducing additives including nanoparticles

A system may include: a source of water fluidically coupled to a fracturing blender; water testing equipment disposed between the source of water and the fracturing blender wherein the water testing equipment is operable to measure at least one property of the source of water; a plurality of friction reducing polymers operable to be added to the fracturing blender; and a control system comprising: at least one processor; and a memory coupled to the processor to provide software that configures the processor to receive an input signal from the water testing equipment and select at least one of the plurality of friction reducing polymers.

Method to hydraulically fracture a well

A method of preparing a fracturing fluid comprising: preparing or providing an aqueous fluid containing iron ions; screening a plurality of friction reducers against the aqueous fluid wherein the plurality of friction reducers are anionic, cationic, nonionic, amphoteric, or combinations thereof; selecting at least one friction reducer from the plurality of friction reducers based at least in part on the step of screening; and preparing a fracturing fluid including the at least one friction reducer.

A method may include: preparing or providing an aqueous fluid containing iron ions; screening at least one iron control agent against the aqueous fluid; selecting at least one iron control agent and iron control agent concentration based at least in part on the step of screening; and preparing a fracturing fluid comprising an aqueous base fluid and the at least one iron control agent wherein a concentration of the iron control agent in the fracturing fluid is greater than or equal to the selected iron control agent concentration.

Mitigation of friction reducer precipitation

Creating a fracture network extending from a wellbore into a subterranean formation. The method includes introducing a series of fluids into the fracture network in a subterranean formation, thereby forming a proppant pack in the fracture network. The series of fluids comprise: a microproppant slurry comprising a microproppant having an average diameter less than about 25 microns; a proppant slurry comprising a proppant having an average diameter of about 75 microns to about 500 microns; and a sweep fluid having a microproppant weight percentage by weight of the sweep fluid that is from 0 to about the same of the microproppant weight percentage in the microproppant slurry by weight of the microproppant slurry. The introduction of the microproppant slurry is not immediately followed by introduction of the proppant slurry. The introduction of the proppant slurry is not immediately followed by introduction of the microproppant slurry.

Staged propping of fracture networks

Methods and compositions for treating aqueous fluids that may be included in treatment fluids that are used for treating a subterranean formation. In some embodiments, the methods include: providing a water-based friction reducing additive that includes an aqueous base fluid, a salt, a first friction reducing polymer, and a suspension agent; introducing the water-based friction reducing additive into a treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into a wellbore penetrating at least a portion of a subterranean formation at a pressure sufficient to create or enhance one or more fractures within the subterranean formation.

Water-based friction reducing additives

Methods of treating a subterranean formation are described. The methods include introducing a treatment fluid that includes a friction reducing polymer (e.g., a cationic friction reducing polymer) into the subterranean formation. The cationic friction reducing polymer is allowed to degrade and release choline chloride or polyDADMAC, which can each act as a clay stabilizer.

Multifunctional friction reducers

A method may comprise: determining a total dissolved solids (TDS) concentration of a water source; correlating the TDS concentration to an ion concentration; and selecting at least one friction reducing polymer for a hydraulic fracturing operation based at least in part on the ion concentration.

Treatment fluids including a base fluid; and fly ash microspheres, wherein the fly ash microspheres are of a material selected from the group consisting of Class C fly ash, Class F fly ash, and any combination thereof, wherein the fly ash microspheres have a diameter in the range of from about 0.1&#x3bc;&#x3b7;&#x3b7; to about 150&#x3bc;&#x3b7;&#x3b7;, and wherein the fly ash microspheres are present in the treatment fluid in an amount in the range of from about 0.001 ppg to about 1 ppg of the treatment fluid.

Fly ash microspheres for use in subterranean formation operations

A downhole fluid composition having a saccharide gelling agent, an oxidative breaker, and a sequestering agent. The sequestering agent is hydrocarbon miscible and inert to oxidation by the oxidative breaker. The sequestering agent sequesters the oxidative breaker or an activator for the oxidative breaker, whereby oxidation of the gelling agent is inhibited. The downhole fluid may also include a proppant. Upon contacting hydrocarbons downhole or reaching a predetermined temperature, the sequestering agent releases the oxidative breaker or activator thereby oxidizing the saccharide gelling agent.

Delayed breaker composition

A method may include: determining a total dissolved solids (TDS) concentration of a water source; correlating the TDS concentration to an ion concentration; and selecting at least one friction reducing polymer for a hydraulic fracturing operation based at least in part on the ion concentration.

A method may comprise introducing a first traceable solid particulate into a first formation zone of one or more subterranean formations, wherein the first traceable solid particulate may comprise a first soluble tracer coated onto a first solid particulate. The method may also comprise introducing a second traceable solid particulate into a second formation zone of the one or more subterranean formations, wherein the second traceable solid particulate may comprise a second soluble tracer coated onto a second solid particulate, wherein the second tracer and the first tracer may have a different chemical identity. The method may further comprise recovering produced fluid from the one or more subterranean formations and monitoring concentrations of at least the first soluble tracer and the second soluble tracer in the produced fluid.

A method for directing a proppant in a subterranean formation including providing a first wellbore and a second wellbore, wherein the first wellbore and the second wellbore are disposed about a target area of the subterranean formation; creating a pressure differential between the first wellbore and the second wellbore, such that the pressure of one of the first wellbore or the second wellbore is at a higher pressure and the other of the first wellbore or second wellbore is at a lower pressure; and initiating a fracturing pressure in the higher pressure wellbore by pumping a fracturing fluid in the wellbore, the fracturing pressure sufficient to create a fracture at a predetermined location; whereby the fracturing fluid is drawn from the fractured wellbore toward the lower pressurized wellbore as a result of the pressure differential.

Method and system for distribution of a proppant

A method of fracturing a subterranean formation is provided. A fracturing fluid is pumped into the formation to fracture the formation. A plurality of nanoparticles is mixed with the fracturing fluid and placed in the fracture. A plurality of conventional proppant particulates is also mixed with the fracturing fluid and placed in the fracture.
