An ophthalmic device includes a rigid insert and an enclosure enveloping the rigid insert. The enclosure includes a cornea contact formed on a concave side of the enclosure. The cornea contact has a ring-shape that protrudes from the concave side of the enclosure and is disposed under at least a portion of the rigid insert. The ring-shape of the cornea contact includes a plurality of discontinuous sections. The plurality of channels are disposed on the concave side of the enclosure and each extend through a corresponding one of the discontinuous sections of the cornea contact.

An ophthalmic device having posterior and anterior features are disclosed herein. An example ophthalmic device may include an enclosure having an insert disposed therein. The enclosure may include a cornea contact disposed on a posterior side and arranged to rest on a user's cornea outside of a central cornea area when the ophthalmic device is worn by a user. The enclosure further includes a channel formed in the posterior side, where the channel extends through the cornea contact from at least radially outside of the insert to an inner edge of the cornea contact.

Ophthalmic lenses for the treatment of presbyopia may be improved to enhance the visual experience of the patient. By adjusting the optical design of presbyopic lenses to account for changes in pupil size due to the degree of myopia or hyperopia, an enhanced visual experience may be achieved independent of the level of ametropia.

An in vivo method of characterizing dynamic tear films has been developed using a near infrared phase-shifting interferometer. This interferometer continuously measures light reflected from the tear film, allowing precision analysis of the dynamic surface topography. Movies showing the tear film behavior may be generated along with quantitative metrics describing the tear film surface as it changes in time.

The invention provides methods for designing contact lenses and contact lenses designed according to the method, which lenses provide an improved method for presbyopia correction compared to conventional lenses and methods. Reverse raytracing preferably is utilized to remove aberrations induced into the wavefront as it is imaged from immediately behind the lens to the detector of the interferometer.

The invention provides contact lenses that substantially block either or both UV and blue light from entering the lens wearer's pupil by providing multiple concentric areas of certain materials that decrease or substantially eliminate the UV and blue light transmission.
