A release tool for releasing a downhole portion a downhole tool, including a release housing, top and bottom subs, a release assembly, and an integrated igniter. The top sub and bottom subs connected to the downhole tool. The release assembly including a release mandrel and a locking mechanism. The release mandrel is operatively connected to the top sub and the bottom sub, and releasably secures the release assembly to the bottom sub. The integrated igniter includes an integrator housing, a switch assembly, and an internal propellant. The switch assembly is operatively connected to the internal propellant whereby, upon triggering the switch, the internal propellant is ignited to release an ignition fluid under ignition pressure to unlock the locking mechanism and release the downhole portion of the downhole tool from the uphole portion of the downhole tool.

Downhole release tool with integrated igniter and method of using same

An integrated tool processing system and a wellsite monitoring system for a wellsite. The integrated tool processing system includes a tool assembler, a tool lift, and a tool transporter. The tool assembler includes a tool conveyor and a gun builder. The tool lift is connected by a tool stager to the tool assembler. The tool lift includes a lift base to receive the downhole tool and a lift arm to lift the downhole tool. The tool transporter includes a vehicle and a boom for connection to the downhole tool. The vehicle and the boom carry the downhole tool into position for delivery at the wellsite. The wellsite monitoring system includes wellsite sensors to collect wellsite data, wellsite monitors to receive and analyze the wellsite data, and a central station to collect and further analyze the wellsite data and to operate the tool processing system based on the combined wellsite data.

Integrated wellsite processing system and wellsite monitoring system and method of using same

A loaded perforating gun and/or downhole perforating tool are assembled and used for perforating a wellbore. The loaded perforating gun includes a gun housing, a detonator assembly, and a plunging charge assembly. The plunging charge assembly includes a charge tube, a shaped charge, and a plunger. The plunger includes a receiving cap, and a detonator cord supported in the receiving cap. The shaped charge is operatively connected to the detonator cord. The detonator is selectively connected to the detonator cord by the plunger. The plunging charge assembly is movable between a disarmed position with the detonator cord disconnected from the detonator assembly and an armed position with the detonator cord operatively connected to the detonator assembly whereby, when the detonator can selectively pass a detonation signal via the detonator cord to the shaped charges.

Loaded perforating gun with plunging charge assembly and method of using same

An integrated detonation assembly of a perforating unit includes a detonator assembly and a charge assembly. The detonator assembly is positioned in the outer housing and comprises a bulkhead connected to the outer housing; a charge connector connected to the bulkhead, the charge connection having a connection end; a detonator carried by the charge connector; and a trigger coupled to the detonator and to a remote actuator. The charge assembly is insertable into the outer housing, and comprises a charge tube to support shaped charges therein; a charge feedthru; and a receiver. The receiver is at an opposite end of the charge tube, and has a receptacle shaped to matingly receive the connection end of the charge connector and to engage the trigger whereby, upon insertion of the charge assembly into the outer housing, the receiver is oriented and communicatively secured to the detonator assembly.

Downhole perforating tool with integrated detonation assembly and method of using same

A nightcap system and assembly for closing a wellhead assembly positioned about a wellbore. The nightcap assembly includes a boom and a hoist. The boom includes a boom cylinder connectable to the wellhead assembly and a boom piston extendable from the cylinder. The hoist includes a hoist cylinder connectable to the wellhead assembly and a hoist piston extendable therefrom. The hoist piston includes a nightcap support to carry a nightcap. The hoist is connectable to the boom piston and movable therewith whereby the nightcap may be inserted into an opening of the wellhead assembly.

Nightcap assembly for closing a wellhead and method of using same

A ball launcher and method for actuating wellsite equipment at a wellsite is disclosed. The wellsite has wellhead equipment positioned at an inlet of a wellbore. The ball launcher includes a housing, a ball release, and a housing extension. The housing has a passage for receiving balls. The ball is release positionable about the housing. The ball release includes a feeder to selectively and sequentially release the balls from the housing. The housing extension includes a hopper tube and a feed tube. The hopper tube has an inlet to receive the balls from the housing, the feed tube extending at an angle from the hopper tube. The feed tube has an exit a distance above the wellhead equipment to release the balls therethrough whereby the balls are dropped into and activates the wellsite equipment in the wellbore.

Mobile ball launcher with free-fall ball release and method of making same

A detonation assembly of a perforating unit of a downhole tool is positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, and includes a charge assembly. The detonation assembly includes a detonator housing positionable in the perforating unit and having an uphole and downhole ends; uphole and downhole connections positioned at the uphole and downhole ends, respectively, of the detonator housing; a detonator positioned in the detonation housing; and a trigger positioned in the detonator housing. The trigger includes a detonation switch and a detonator contact. The detonation switch is communicatively coupled, when in use, between a remote actuator and the detonator contact. The detonator contact is positionable in the downhole connection, and has spring-loaded arms extending through openings in the downhole connection to urge electrical contact with the charge assembly whereby an electrical connection is maintained between the detonator and the charge assembly.

Quick-locking detonation assembly of a downhole perforating tool and method of using same

A perforating apparatus according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure comprises a carrier adapted to be deployed in a wellbore; a shaped explosive charge mounted on the carrier, the shaped charge comprising an explosive disposed inside of a case; and a conically shaped liner having an apex and a base disposed with the explosive in the case, the liner comprising an electromagnetically formed portion. The electromagnetically formed portion may comprise a thickness at the apex that is different from a thickness at the base.
