Systems and methods for disseminating messages to a user via a mobile computing device are provided. In an embodiment, a route of the mobile computing device that includes at least a destination and one or more segments is determined, and one or more generally-broadcast messages, each corresponding to a geographic region, are received. A determination is made as to whether the mobile computing device, while traveling along the route to the destination, will traverse a particular geographic region associated with a particular generally-broadcast message of the one or more generally-broadcast messages; and if/when the mobile computing device will traverse the particular geographic region, the particular generally-broadcast message is disseminated, through the mobile computing device, to the user.

A method, computer program product, and system are provided for computing link supportability in a WCDMA communications system. For example, the method can be used to calculate link supportability of a transponder in satellite communications system (e.g. MUOS) in a user-to-base direction. This method can include expressing a carrier signal to noise ratio spectral density for a communication link of interest in terms of a transponder input power of the communication link of interest, a spectral overlap factor representative of one or more interfering communication links, and a transponder input power of the one or more interfering communication links. Assumptions and approximations can be made to simplify the spectral density expression in order to reduce a dimensionality of terms used in the computation of the expression. As such, in reducing dimensionality, the expression becomes a manageable computation for WCDMA communication systems to evaluate.

Link supportability in a WCDMA communications system

Methods, systems and computer program products for filtering generally-broadcast messages received by a movable unit based on current spatial position, stored trajectory history, and probable future trajectories. A current spatial position of the movable unit is received and stored to form a stored trajectory history. A generally-broadcast message relating to a target geographical region is also received and stored. Potential trajectories of the movable unit are then computed over a pre-determined time based on at least one of the current spatial position, a current travel direction of the movable unit, and the stored trajectory history of the movable unit. The generally-broadcast message is then disseminated in response to at least one potential trajectory crossing into the target geographical region during the pre-determined time period. The generally-broadcast message may also be disseminated on the basis of specified user preferences.

Systems of and methods for providing cellular priority access and topological guidance information to cellular users are described, employing wireless ad hoc network and cellular logic. A centralized aspect of acquiring cell loading information and geographic coordinates is combine with a distributed scatternet forming aspect to enable guidance information to be computed and indicated to the user. The guidance information is reflective of cell loading and congestion status of neighboring cells, as well as the availability of alternative radio resources in the user's current cell or neighboring cells. The system may also be employed in redistributing cell traffic among cells to optimally balance cell loads.

A message filtering system is provided for filtering generally broadcast messages received by a movable unit. The generally broadcast message includes an information segment including location, time and/or velocity information relating to an event of potential interest to the unit which has occurred in the past and which has continuing consequences for the unit. The movement history of the unit is stored along with data selection information and a determination is made as to whether the information contained in the broadcast information segment is of interest based on this stored information.

Movement history based selective distribution of generally broadcast information

A communication system (100) is provided for transmitting data to mobile receivers utilizing a subcarrier within a commercial FM channel of a radio station (55). The data transmitted is first encoded in encoder (112), utilizing a forward error correction code. The sequence of the encoded data is altered in interleaver (116), subdivided into a plurality of subframes, in framing and synchronization circuit (120), which also adds channel state bits to each subframe. The framed data is modulated onto the subcarrier in the differential quadrature phased shift keying modulator (130), the output of which is coupled to the FM modulator (52) of radio station transmitter (50). The transmitted radio frequency signals may be received by a vehicle antenna (12) for coupling to the vehicle's FM receiver (80). The modulated subcarrier is recovered from the FM demodulator (84) of the receiver (80), the modulated subcarrier being demodulated to recover the encoded digital data therefrom. The channel state bits included with the data are extracted from the digital data and utilized to form a data reliability factor for each bit of the encoded data. The data reliability factors thus obtained are associated with each bit of the data in a deinterleaver (360). Deinterleaver (360) provides each data bit in proper sequence, with its associated data reliability factor to a decoder (370). The decoded digital data is provided to a vehicle traffic computer (90) for processing and presentation of traffic information to a user on a display (92).
