A simple and effective 'RF snubber' circuit resolves the problems associated with transient spectral noise caused by radio transmitter activation in nearby channels. By connecting an RF snubber circuit in parallel with the RF amplifier output, the rise time or turn-on characteristic of the RF signal generated by the transmitter is controlled. Mounting and retaining apparatus for electrical, optical, or fluid conductors has a pair of resilient top members cantilevered from relatively rigid vertical sidewalls which are attached to a relatively rigid horizontal base member. The apparatus defines a rectangular channel in which the conductors are housed. The apparatus is adapted to allow conductors to be easily inserted into or removed from the channel via a one-hand operation. Insertion is accomplished by placing a conductor over the top members and pushing down on them so as to cause an opening between the top members which is sufficient to allow the conductors to enter the channel. The resilient top members may overlap to hide the conductors retained in the channel or they may be spaced apart.

A circuit for safely and rapidly charging batteries, with the charging occurring at three different rates. A first rate is used to bring a battery up to a level where it is determined to be safe for rapid rate charging. At this charge level the temperature of the battery may also be checked to be sure it is within a safe range for rapid charging. If safe, the battery is then rapidly charged at a second rate, until it is almost at its maximum capacity. At that point a third rate charge, lower than the first charge rate, is used to maintain the battery at nominally full charge. A microprocessor controller controls a plurality of rapid rate chargers and determines when the battery parameters are safe so that rapid charging can be safely employed. The rapid charger may be of a conventional charge pump type.

Communication between a first radio transmitter and receiver and a second radio transmitter and receiver is provided by a system repeater. An arrangement for each radio transmitter and receiver in the system establishes communication on a radio frequency channel selected from a plurality of such channels. When an arrangement is in an idle or receive mode, it causes the associated receiver to search the channels for a predetermined group tone or tones assigned to each receiver. When the predetermined group tone or tones are received on a channel, the arrangement enables the associated transmitter and receiver on that channel. When an arrangement is in a call originate or transmit mode, it causes the associated receiver to search for an idle or unused channel. When an idle channel is found, the arrangement enables the associated transmitter and receiver on that channel, and causes the transmitter to transmit a busy tone and the predetermined group tone or tones so as to enable the other transmitters and receivers of the predetermined group on that same channel.

Arrangement and method for establishing radio communication in a system

Arrangement for establishing communication between a first mobile radio station and a second mobile radio station through a repeater over a radio frequency channel selected from a plurality of such channels. In an idle mode, a mobile station searches the channels for a predetermined group signal identifying it as belonging to a particular group of mobile stations. When that predetermined group signal is received on a channel, the mobile station is enabled on that channel so that it can communicate with a call originating mobile station belonging to the same group. In a call originate mode, a mobile station searches for an idle or unused channel identified by the absence of a busy signal. When an idle channel is found, the call originating station transmits a busy signal. The repeater, hearing the busy signal, transmits an acquisition signal. This acquisition signal is detected by the call originating mobile station which thereafter transmits a predetermined group signal for enabling other mobile stations in the common group on that same channel.

In a repeater trunking system including a plurality of mobile stations communicating over a predetermined number of communication channels, each associated with a repeater, an arrangement for inhibiting attempted communication on channels not in a selected cell even though the mobile stations are capable of operation on the channels of non-selected cells.

Some radio repeaters receive a voice signal on a first frequency and an information tone signal on a second frequency, and transmit both the voice and tone signals on a third frequency. A circuit is provided to sense the presence of the tone signal and to filter that frequency from the voice signal and also attenuate the remainder of the voice frequencies. The filter prevents the voice signal from interfering with the tone signal, and the attenuator prevents the transmitter modulator from being overloaded, thus providing improved repeater transmission of the tone frequency.
