A network communication service with an improved subscriber model. In one embodiment, a mobile user (MU), also referred to as a subscriber, may access the network service through a portable computing device (PCD) using a wireless (or wired) network interface card. Access points (APs) for the network may be widely distributed in various facilities. In one embodiment, the APs are arranged at known geographic locations and may provide geographic location information regarding the geographic location of the mobile user (MU). A digital certificate may be stored on the mobile user's PCD in order to allow access to the network. The digital certificate may store sponsorship information, including information regarding programs or entities in which the mobile user is a member or is affiliated. Each mobile user (subscriber) to the network service may have a 'value bucket' which determines the amount of network access or service available to the user. Billing for access to the network communication service, i.e., the amount the 'value bucket' is drained or filled, may be based on one or more of a number of factors, including information stored in the digital certificate, such as sponsorship information, the geographic location of the user, demographic information of the user, and charging information of the user.

The present invention relates to a device, system, kit or apparatus for use with a child or stroller for detecting the removal of the child or baby form the stroller. The present invention may have a fixed plate secured to the frame of the stroller and a flexible plate in close association with a seat of the stroller. The fixed plate and the flexible plate are attachment to the stroller such that they are substantially parallel to each other. A sensor mounted on the fixed plate is engaged directly or indirectly by bending of the flexible plate due to the weight of the child or baby in the seat of the stroller. When the weight of the baby or child is removed from the seat, the flexible plate disengages the sensor due to the flexible plate being biased to maintain its original shape and an alarm is activated.

A system and method for providing access and/or roaming features on a network system. The network system includes a plurality of wireless and/or wired access points coupled to a network. Access points (APs) for the network may be widely distributed in various facilities, such as airports, mass-transit stations, and various businesses. The network may couple to a wide area network, such as the Internet. In one embodiment, a portable computing device (PCD) of a user may store identification information which uniquely indicates a network provider of a plurality of possible network providers. The identification information may also or instead indicate an access or privilege level of the user. Each of the access points are operable to 'listen for' or detect identification information associated with numerous different providers. When the access point receives the identification information from a PCD of a user, the access point may determine the appropriate network provider for the portable computing device using the identification information. Network access may then be provided to the portable computing device through the determined network provider. Thus the network system is useable by subscribers of each of the plurality of possible network providers, thereby enabling subscribers to 'roam' on various wireless networks, including networks maintained by other providers. The access information may also include an access level which indicates the user's access or privilege level. Thus, the local network may provide various local resources which are available to users having a first access level, and users with a second access level may not be entitled to view or utilize these network resources on the network, but may be simply provided external Internet access.
