A price display system for a store includes spread spectrum radio broadcasting of UPC and price data from a transmitter in the store to a large number of receivers. Each receiver is connected to one or more LCD displays attached to the store shelves, and each receiver provides the relevant information to each of the connected displays. The displays and receivers are battery powered.

System for display of prices and related method

A tape measure 20 includes a display window 24 for presenting a digital presentation of the measurement being made. The tape measure 20 includes an encoder 74 which provides for a combined absolute scale 95 and relative scale 105 for determining the measurement. Perforations 62 in the tape 26 are mated with pins 60 extending from a capstan 58 in order to cause the encoder 74 to send signals to a microprocessor 76. The microprocessor 76 processes the signal and displays the measurement.

Measuring apparatus with readout display

A sensor timer is provided for automatically turning on and off a lamp or alternatively for allowing the lamp to be manually turned on and off using the switch normally associated with the lamp. The sensor timer automatically senses the arrival of nighttime despite seasonal variations in the actual time of nightfall and automatically turns on the lamp a first selected time period after nightfall. The lamp is then automatically turned off a second selected time period after the lamp has been turned on or alternatively is turned on and off randomly during the second selected time period. The sensor timer can also dim the lamp. The sensor timer converts from automatic mode to manual mode in response to the turning on of the lamp through its manual switch thereby to allow the lamp to be controlled directly by the manually operated lamp switch. To convert the sensor timer from manual mode to automatic mode the lamp switch is turned on, off and on in rapid succession. The lamp then comes on for a brief period to inform the user that the sensor timer has been successfully converted to the automatic mode of operation.

Sensor timer for lamps

A programmable wall switch for controlling the time for turning on and for turning off an incandescent light includes a rectifying circuit for producing from the AC power line a selected DC voltage. The switch includes a microprocessor powered by this DC voltage for turning on a light at any one of several selected times and for turning off the light at one of an additional corresponding several selected times. A time display is provided for displaying the time as well as for allowing a user to review the programmed status of the switch at any one of several selected times. A signal is generated at each zero crossing of the AC power line which is supplied to the microprocessor. The microprocessor produces output signals which turn on, turn off or dim the light at selected times. The ability of the microprocessor to dim the light further enhances the appearance of human occupancy when the switch is used to simulate occupancy of a vacant building.

Programmable wall switch for controlling lighting times and loads

A wall command switch (10) comprising a main frame (9) insertable over a conventional switch plate (50) and having a base portion (20) and an essentially planar pressure plate (15) rockably mounted within the base portion and substantially co-extensive therewith. An electrical switch (28) is mounted on the bottom surface of the main frame and a switch operator (35) is attached to the pressure plate in alignment with operable portions of the electrical switch so that rocking of the pressure plate moves the operator into engagement with the electrical switch. Structure in contact with the pressure plate to return the pressure plate to an unrocked position is provided. The base portion (20) also mounts a vertically moving override switch operator (55) which in turn moves through an actuator (70) an inwardly located position switch (77) which can allow automatic-manual or off functions of a light electrically connected to the command switch.

A method for applying polarizer material to partially-finished liquid-crystal displays comprises loading a plurality of partially-finished liquid-crystal devices on a strip carrier, applying adhesive polarizer material in strip form over the liquid-crystal devices on the strip carrier, and cutting the polarizer material to desired size with non-contact cutting means.

A new and improved shock-resistant electronic watch module is provided, which comprises a case, a frame of electrically insulating material mounted in the case, a lens plate of an electrically insulating material being flexibly mounted on a first side of the frame, a substrate mounted to the lens plate, a frequency standard, a frequency divider, an electro-optical display means, and means for driving the display, all being mounted to the substrate, and, a battery removably mounted on a second side of the frame and being electrically coupled to the substrate.
