An intervertebral spacer adapted for implanting between adjacent vertebral bodies of a human spine as a load-bearing replacement for a spinal disc. The spacing member includes an external, non-porous, concavo-convex contour with respect to one dimension of said spacing member. The spacing member is preferably constructed from a rigid, non-resilient load-bearing material that is incapable of elastic deformation. The spacing member is inserted with the aid of a sheathed trocar device that is releasably attached to the spacer, to enable implantation and selective positioning of the spacer by the surgeon from the posterior side of the spine, without the need to retract the dural nerve or the posterior longitudinal ligament.

Intervertebral spacer

A machine powered by forces exerted by the machine user on machine driving members, such as pedals, which drive a rotary driven member through a unique variable ratio drive system. The machine may be constructed and arranged for use as either a vehicular conveyance for the machine, user or a stationary exercise machine both of which operate in a manner that provides an effective therapeutic exercise for certain orthopedic problems, particularly spine and leg problems. Squeeze motion to rotary motion tilt head driver

A spinal implant prosthetic insert for implantation into a void in the spinal column in place of a diseased or injured vertebra that has been removed. The insert maintains the height of the anterior spinal column, thus preventing deformity from occurring. The prosthesis insert is implanted into the spinal column after the anterior vertebral body has been removed. The insert is rigidly fixed in place with bone screws that will screw into the adjacent upper and lower vertebrae after the insert has been positioned in place, through the operation of a drive that is accessible after the insert has been implanted into place. The insert is contoured so that no substantial part of it protrudes outside of the margins of the anterior vertebral column, making it usable as an implant even in the lumbar region where protrusions from the spinal column cannot be tolerated. The device is easily actuated after the anterior region of the spinal column has been exposed, and provides a rigidity that is limited only by the integrity of the bone of the adjacent vertebrae in which to is fixed.
