A multi-speed fan drive apparatus is disclosed which includes a pair of concentric shafts rotatable relative a fixed support and carrying clutch plates engageable to stop rotation of the shafts relative the fixed support. A pair of different-sized sun gears are carried on the two shafts and are intermeshed with planet gears rotatably mounted upon a planet gear carrier. Drive means is provided for driving the planet gear carrier in a given direction and a ring gear, with a fan blade connected thereto, is intermeshed with the planet gears. Means are provided for stopping rotation of one or the other of the sun gears with respect to the fixed support, and also for causing the shafts and sun gears to rotate in unison with the planet gear carrier and therefore the ring gear, to obtain three speeds of operation. Alternate embodiments are also disclosed which include different means for limiting rotation of the sun and ring gears, and in one embodiment there is included a single sun gear and planet gear arrangement providing a two-speed apparatus.

Multi-speed fan drive apparatus

A seat belt device including a buckle receiving an apertured tongue. A cover is pivotally mounted to the buckle frame and is engageable with a pawl to pivot the pawl to and from an apertured tongue releaseably secured within the buckle. An emergency release bar attached to the pawl extends rearwardly beneath the cover and is pivotable to force the pawl away from the frame releasing the apertured tongue. A roller bar on the buckle frame and/or the apertured tongue is slidable within a pair of slots at one end of which is located a seat belt stop. A second pair of side slots opens into the main slots releaseably holding the roller bar in a position to secure the seat belt against the stop preventing relative motion therebetween.

Anti-creep seat belt device with emergency release means

A fluid shear coupling is disclosed herein which comprises a coupling disc received within a housing. The coupling disc and housing are mounted for coaxial rotation, and the coupling disc is connectable to a drive pulley assembly for driving the coupling disc in rotation. The coupling disc includes a pair of annular flanges extending axially in opposite directions from the periphery of the disc. The flanges define inside and outside working surfaces with the inside and outside working surfaces including helical grooves for moving a fluid received against those surfaces in a predetermined direction. The housing includes working portions closely conforming to the working surfaces of the flanges. A fluid reservoir is defined by the housing and is operable to move a working fluid into the space between the flanges and the working portions of the housing to provide variable coupling of the housing with the coupling disc.

Fluid shear coupling

A multi-speed temperature responsive fan clutch having a planetary gear unit disposed between the drive pulley and an output shaft with there being a low speed clutch and a high speed clutch, both actuated by a temperature responsive device. There is also a speed responsive clutch locking the output shaft to the pulley at low speeds.
